Ontario man killed in motorcycle crash on Cabot Trail
July 5, 2012 - 2:39pm By THE CHRONICLE HERALD

A 47-year-old Ontario man died Thursday morning after hitting a deer while riding a motorcycle on the Cabot Trail.

RCMP in Ingonish Beach are investigating the collision, they said in a release.

At about 9:45 Thursday morning, local RCMP received a 911 call about the collision, which happened near Buchanan Memorial Hospital, they said.

“A group of five motorcycles were travelling north on the Cabot Trail when a deer came out of the ditch and collided with one of the motorcycles,” said the release.

“The rider was knocked off the bike and struck the guardrail on the shoulder of the road.”

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The RCMP are not releasing his name until they’ve notified his next of kin.

I am in Vermont, just returning from two loops of the Cabot Trail. When you enter the park, they have signs up to watch out for moose and bear. I had a moose run across the highway 60 ft in front of me on one run, just as I was accelerating onto the highway after taking a photo at one of the beaches. Had I been at full speed, I may have hit him. The bikes startle them and they run in the direction they are facing.

RIP rider and condolences to his family and riding buddies.

RIP rider. I was at the Cabot Trail about a week and a half ago. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
