Your experience with these cars? Reliability, durability, fun to drive factor etc.

I'm looking into them, will test drive this weekend.

Subaru quality is excellent and seems to only get better. A WRX is reliable, durable and fun to drive so I am sure you will be happy with one. With a little aftermarket exhaust, the boxer engine easily is one of the nicest sounding.

^ You're joking right? Subaru quality has got worse with every passing year. The dealerships are notorious for doing anything they can to avoid fixing failed engines. that and the cars are heavier, slower gas sucking pigs.

OP you need to read the NASIOC posts..... http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1648372

There's some light (almost 200 pages) on the GR Impreza issues to start with. I have been building/tuning Subarus for seven years. Sold my GC8 back in 2010 and wouldn't take a new one if you gave it to me.

RIP Subaru. You used to make good cars :(

No, Im not joking, thats my opinion. My family has owned/driven Subaru's for 14 years now. Impreza's (3 GC8s), a Forester and now a 2011 Outback and overall the experience has been good.

People have bad experiences with just about every car manufacturer so of course there will be bad feedback on the net but overall I'd take a Subaru over a lot of the other options out there. Maybe your viewpoint is more geared towards performance and you can say what you like here but overall quality is up in my opinion and it would seem that others have that opinion as well.

I have an older WRX and I love that little car. It is hard on gas though, compared to the 1.8 turbo VW i used to drive.. but AWD is fun!

Good for your family bud. He asked about the WRX. I gave him 200 pages of serious failures with the WRX. That's just one thread. Specifically regarding the GR.

You just said apples taste good because potato.

I'll assume you're talking about a GD. Much better car but yea, sucks premium fuel like a truck, gets stolen a lot, has high insurance and tends to get profiled by police because of how it looks.....

The info is there for the OP to consider.

Screw Subaru. You want fun factor? Check out MINI. Go cart on wheels, can't get any more fun. It just so happens that I have for sale. :)

To be perfectly serious though, I have never driven a WRX and I did always want one, but I would take another MINI over one in a heart beat.

1. I was responding to your comment "Subaru quality has got worse with every passing year." That is why that particular comment is quoted.

2. He is asking about a 2009+ WRX and I gave my opinion which is based on what I have heard from others who own one. My opinion is they are awesome cars. Your opinion is different. Not a surprising predicament on an internet forum.

You are right, the info is out there for OP to consider. So, just leave it at that.

I get nervous about WRX's..what percentage get beat on?

Most. They get hacked with this cheap POS aftermarket thing called an Access port. Basically the owners want louder exhaust noise and aftermarket blow off valves to make blow off valve noises but the narrow minded ECU can't compensate so they run lean or rich (depending on what they have done) and they hack them with off the shelf maps. Usually running pig rich unless they pay more to get tuned again (which they should but not all do). In the end it's cylinder wash that eats the engine and we make a killing in bottom end replacements :) That's just when modified engines fail. Unfortunately the stock engines have been failing in record numbers from many different problems but Subaru is adamant that any mod voids warranty Even unrelated ones :( Problem is, you can remove the Hack without any trace so it's hard to tell what used cars have had it. :(

There is a possibility of finding a clean one, but sometimes you really have to look for them. From what I read before buying mine, looking at the wagons is a good bet if you want a stock, cleanish example. Younger crowd tend to want the sedans more, so those are the ones that are modified and beat on most often. Of course there is plenty of hooliganism to be had in a wagon as well, stock or not. I'm no expert, but the bugeye'd wagon in my driveway is a pleasure to drive, and bone stock.
