Hey I recently bought a 2009 Suzuki RMZ 450 (FI). I have a set of Excel wheels with Haan hubs. My question is what kind of gearing I should be running. I was thinking 15/44. Also where the hell can I get sprockets I have been looking around and cant seem to find anything. Went to royal in Guelph no luck there (also I have been looking on line). Any help would be appreciated

Thanx

What are your intentions with the bike?
I find it hard to believe you can't find sprockets given that it's a very popular bike.

I can find the proper sprockets 48 - 52 but not any 44 that will fit for sure. I am planning on racing it this summer

Stock sprockets are 13/50.
What kind of racing would you be doing that could require anywhere near 15/44?

You would really be killing your acceleration.

I don't know of anyone in the MX side of things that has put that tall of a rear on.
On my 250F, on the longest straight in our series I'm barely hitting the rev limiter in 5th gear with stock gearing. Your 450F would run out of track before it runs out of gear. If you're running SM, you may want a bit taller rear gear than stock, but not as must as you're asking for.

What kind of racing are you planning on?

I am planing on doing the Supermoto Ontario circuit (well a couple of races at leist). I am guessing on the gearing based on my DRZ sm. I was mainly going on the assumption that since I am putting on 17" supermoto wheels I should probably loose some teeth on the sprocket. If I was just running dirt track tires (sportsman setup) I would not have to worry about the gearing. mainly I don't want to be bouncing off the rev limiter at the top of fifth when I use the sumo wheels. Slightly taller gear would be way easier to find I might see if I can pick up a 48 or something close to that this weekend.

The gear boxes aren't the same between the two, so you can't really compare them.

That said, SM is for sure a different set up, considering a change to 17s. There a few supermoto guys around here that know a crap load more than I do when it comes to that.

Have you looked up supersprox for sprockets? They might have something for ya. I have one of their set ups on the FZ6 and it's holding up awesome!
