2008-2009 Yamaha FZ1

I'm seriously considering to buy used FZ1. I have no experience with Yamaha whatsoever but I spent a week or so researching this model ... beside regular and obvious used bike stuff, is there any recall or issue I should be aware of before making a purchase. Any help would be really appreciated.

-06's and 07's have an issue with the frame cracking, some people have had luck getting Yamaha to replace it. 08's are clear.
-All years have reported generator rotor failure at low and high mileages.

Those are the two expensive issues.

There's also been issues with the secondary throttle butterfly motor failing, same with ignition coils. Both are reasonably cheap and easy to fix.

That's it for common issues.

My '07 has over 70k km and has had the secondary throttle motor fail, also steering bearings.

Thanks for the info. I'm wondering what would be a $$$ damage if generator rotor needs to be replaced? Anyway, I was looking at this particular 2008 FZ1

If I remember right, the parts are about $400-500 and the job is somewhat a PITA to do. There's a few how to's on the web. I wouldn't worry too much about it as the failure rate seems to be low, but something to keep in mind.

Bike looks clean, price is a bit higher than I would pay. Bought mine two years ago for $5600 with a few $$$ mods like Ohlins rear shock, full exhaust, PC3, Givi luggage, etc. Not completely out of whack though.

PS, I'm in Thornhill too :)
