Hey everyone , I own a 2007 GSX-R 600 and I encountered my first problem with it. The two culprits that I'm more then likely are the cause, are the Stator or Rectifier.
Here's just a quick reference to what is going on. The bike has a brand new battery. Once fired up , the volts are reading 12.4 volts at idle then the volts drop like .3, .4 after a minute or so. If I rev it to 5000 rpm the volts don't increase. I checked the stator plug and two of the three poles are reading 2.5 VAC and 1 is reading 1.5 VAC. As well there is continuity in two of the three poles. I didn't open the Stator cover to check out the condition because according to a source, if you do, its best off to then just replace it because you have to change the gasket and seals. ( That's what i was told)
The bike is showing no FI codes nor is the FI light on.
I am new to the sport bike scene. I have been meticulously researching on what the cause could be. I have found out this is to be a well known issue for the GSX-R's. But now why I am thinking it's the Rectifier is because , I've heard if your bike climbs quickly to 100 degrees or so and tends to over heat but not in a way its bad for your motor, then its your rectifier. ( My bike tends to get hot quickly)
This all started to happen last Friday, while coming home from work, the bike was running rough at idle ( like it was going to stall). It eventually did stall out 5 times but I was able to start it back up. This was all occurring with my old battery. I replaced the battery and it seemed all fine. Went for a little drive and it started to bog at idle. So I stopped , adjusted the Idle adjustment screw to about 2000 RPM. Made it to my destination. Had the bike off for about 10-15 minutes and it wouldn't start up ( just cranking) So I was able to push start it and got it home.
The conclusion is that the bike is able to start, just isn't charging the battery and still idling a little rough. All plugs , ecu , wires and spark plugs seem to be in good working condition. No hose leaks were found and all power accessories work fine.
I have a two brothers slip on exhaust with a power commander which is properly mapped for the bike.
I'm sending this message due to I don't want to go to the Suzuki dealer and get reamed to find out the issue or nor do I want to buy both parts where I just need only one of them..
Please any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you
