2003 GSXR 600 front end swap for 2003 GSXR 1000 front end

I have a 2003 gsxr 600 track bike that's 100% stock right now. Recently, I bought a 2003 GSXR 1000 front end (clipons, inverted forks and radial calipers) that I want to put on the 600 and I need to figure out a couple of things before I start swapping parts:

1) The 600 has 320mm diameter front rotors while the 1000 has 300mm rotors. I was thinking of putting a 10mm spacer on each caliper mount at the fork to make up for the difference, is this safe to do for a track bike or should I just buy 300mm rotors to match the forks and calipers?

2) I want to upgrade the front master cylinder to a radial one as both 03 GSXR 600 and 1000 use a conventional type. For these bikes people usually switch to a 2004+ R1 radial master cylinder for better feel and performance. Is this switch really worth it for those of you who have done it, or should I just go with a 2005+ gsxr radial master cylinder (it's cheaper than the R1)?

Let me know what you guys think I want to get this bike ready for next year...

Hey, I did this exact swap at the beginning of the season. Swapped a 2005 750 front end and swingarm onto my 03 600. I cannot tell you how easy this is, everything is a direct swap zero fabrication except the front caliper/rotor spacers. For the spacers, originally I used washers to space out the 10mm needed. This look lasted about 15minutes (looks so ghetto). I had a friend machine me 10mm aluminum spacers. 4 track days this summer and absolutely no problems with the spacers. I used the stock 05 750 master and braided lines, a world of difference! I was blown away.

Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions,
Jason

1- ran spacers on mine to keep the 320mm rotors and many do it, they don't cost much to make. I do have my 300mm rotors just collecting dust if u wanna trade for ur 320's

2-can't compare the yami to gixxer radial but A gsxr radial is a cheap upgrade.....I'm a brembo guy and would highly recommend one on a track bike, even street for extra braking insurance lol

No I didn't get longer caliper bolts. I checked them the first day track after every few sessions and they were rock solid. I then checked them after the next three track days and again tight as when I started so I figured they are OK.

One thing I forgot - the front fender. Your stock 03 will work but the mounting holes don't line up perfectly. Two options 1)zip tie the bottom the two mounts or 2)look for a 2003 1000 fender over the winter.

D-man, thanks for the offer, let's see if I can find those spacers, if not I might ask you to trade. I think I'll go with the R1 MC and get it done right once and for all.

Jason, right now I don't even have any caliper bolts. But i'll look at the length of them on my street 03 1000 and maybe buy 1cm longer bolts if I use the spacers. I guess I'll look for another fender...

The thread pitch is a fine pitch...make sure you get a high grade bolt as well. It might be hard to find a stainless cap screw in metric in stock in canada, you might be able to find 4 bolts cheaper used from another bike if you know the length and pitch.

M10x1.25 I dont remember the length but I would highly recommend getting longer bolts, 10mm spacers means 10mm less thread going into the fork bottom....I had a caliper rip the threads out of the fork bottoms and almost ate **** hard, because I used the original length bolts with 10mm spacers...Some bike only have 15mm of thread going into the caliper, that will leave you with only 5mm!

You can have anyone with a lathe machine you up some spacers cheap
or you can buy all kinds of fancy ones

Some companies even sell spacer kits with longer bolts included...Like Brembo for example

If I remember correctly your bike has 60mm long OEM so the 70's would work for you

Stock bolts are 60mm, they will not work.....i replaced them with 70mm titanium, way lighter and much stronger.

I have spacers on my caliper. Bike has probably done 30k on them

anyone know if a k6 front (forks, tripples) fit a k1?

Forks, kinda. working on rebuilding a gsxr600 over the winter. I'll keep my eyes open when you throw it up for sale. Probably a good idea to hold onto it until your front end swap is confirmed complete and 100%, just in case.
