Thanks in advance for checking this out.
This August I bought my first motorcycle, a 2000 CBR600F4, and I want to keep it
running like its only 2 years old. I couldn't really ride it this year because I
was only able to get an insurance quote at the end of September (sucks for 17
y/os to try to get insurance on a sport bike), but I've taken it to a parking
lot down the road a couple times to excercise all the moving components and I
try to have it run for at least 10 minutes once or twice a week.
Yesterday I mixed in some fuel stabilizer and topped up the tank as much as I could with gas
to prep the bike for the coming winter, and when I went to start it to have it
run a bit and get the stabilizer in all the lines it wouldn't start. I thought,
and hope, its just because its been very cold the last couple days and I haven't
started it in a couple weeks. I have tried several times and I get several
different responses: sometimes it just wont turn over, I can hear the starter
trying but nothing happens; sometimes it will fire a few times and then just cut
out; and sometimes it will kind of start, it will rev up to 600rpms sometimes
even 1000rpms (the stickers say it should idle at 1300rpm) and it will stick for
about a second and then die. I accidentally used regular gas in it, but I don't
think that would cause this kind of problem.
I am considering just completely
revitalizing it this month; cleaning the carbs, putting in new plugs, changing
the filters and the oil, just in case it is any one of those variables and it
doesn't hurt to do it anyway. But I'm not sure I would want to do all that if
its some other small issue.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
