Tire codes say it was made in 2010. They're bridgestone bt45s.

Any clue why this is happening? And is it safe to keep using them? I have about 2 more seasons of tread left on the tire, so it'd sort of be a shame if I switched them out now...but the cracks are all over the front (none on the rear)

Heat cycles, maybe? Only thing I can think of is that I'm on the highway & WOT within 5 minutes, then as soon as I get off the highway I park it. The bike doesn't sit outside when it's at home, so I can't see it being from the weather

I found your problem, it's a BT45.

But in all seriousness, replace them. Those cracks look dangerous. Also the center looks bad.
When I replaced my tires, it looked worse than that, but new tires made a world of difference.

What tire pressure you running in the front?

And those look very dangerous.

If you want a good hard commuting tire try Bridgestone BT 020's.

He's on a ninja 250r, not sure they make BT 020's in that size.

Yeah those cracks are super dangerous man they look similar to what happened to my Pirellis not too long ago. Switch em up. needless to say I got a flat and warranty on that tire. Not worth it to get stranded man. IMAG0010.jpgIMAG0009.jpg

Wow, if Pirelli replaced them under warranty, did they say anything that might have caused it?

Reminds me of my buddie who had that happen TWICE! The second time his front tire "de-laminated" causing him to crash. I tried to find the pics and links but it looks like Michelin removed all traces of it from the internet!!

usually cracks are caused by exposure. You can use tire conditioner to help prevent it or keep the tires covered when the bike is not in use. Those cracks look like dry rot though. Faulty tire or you've exposed them to some kind of chemical they didnt like. Like everyone is saying..replace them..maybe even give the mfg a call and send them a picture and see what they reply.

You may also want to consider parking the bike on a board when in the garage. Concrete can be terrible for tires. I used to put my bike on a wood plank when storing in the winter. Now I just leave the plank down all season and park the bike on top of it.

If I can make a tire recommendation...
Get Pirelli Sport Demons if you can (they tend to get back ordered a lot)
I switched from BT45's (the GS500F stock) to Sport Demons and they handle much better. And so far it looks like the mileage wear is right around the same. Should be near the same price also.
