I am helping fix my brother's bike (1982 Nighthawk 750). The bike is leaking oil through the oil pressure switch. How important is to have this switch functioning? Is the bike using this feedback from the oil pressure switch to control other functions or is it just an indicator for you to know the oil pressure is high. Thanks.

It's a part that probably costs around $12; and it can save your motor / life if the motor seizes and locks the rear wheel. The feedback is YOU. BTW... how are you going to fix the leak? Replace the switch with a bolt? or JB weld up the hole?

I checked the price with Honda it's $44, even if I fix this I am not sure the indicator light is going to work. I can't remember if that light comes on when starting. I was thinking to fix the leak with high temp silicon that’s I used for sealing one of the gasket.
