1982 Honda CBX 1000... Prety Nice Sounds!

Nicest sounding machine since the Guzzi V8 from 50's. These came out when I was a kid. You will learn how to sync carbs if you buy one. They don't pull like liter bikes of today. Not that fast if I remember correctly either. You can pick up a nice one for about 6K now.

I had a 1980 CBX until 1987. Fun bike and great sound. I wasn't fond of the handling at the time and the brakes don't compare to modern. A bit top heavy and prone to dropping into turns as opposed to progressively rolling into them. The front forks were notoriously weak and benefitted from a fork brace to reduce the probability of speed wobbles. Power was plentiful and the engine, other than the alternator, was reliable.

I didn't like the next evolution when they tried to make a roadster into a sport tourer.

CBX 1050 - awesome bikes. Big midrange, lots of torque at 4-5-6 grand.
Almost no flywheel, and would build revs instantly. Actually the alternator couldn't keep up! So it was connected via a friction device (that allowed it to slip momentarily).
I bought a brand-new 1980 (black) in March of 1980, for $3450.
They were kind of tall and short wheelbase, so would wheelie like two-strokes with no clutching required.
Later in the eighties I got a red 1979 CBX which had the wider 1980 black wheels and 6-into-6 black Denko (Denco?) pipes.
But it was just too insanely loud, and ran lean.
I fixed both problems with a chromed Kerker 6-into-2 system.
Both my CBXs had the European Kit installed by me (low bars, rearsets, and all required cabling and hoses).
The equivalent today would be maybe a 2012 VFR1200 in blue - nothing else like it on the road.
Top o' the line, baby!
Mine had remote-resevoir Marzocchi shocks, fork braces, and premium tires. Didn't handle too-too bad...
I could make them dance! But a lotta motor there, kinda pendulous, and didn't like to roll left then right overly quickly, heheh.
Anyway don't remind me. They're worth a lot of money today - makes me feel sick if I think about it too much.
(Hey I miss my 1982 CX500 Turbo too...)
But nothing could touch a CBX, with those six chromed pipes rolling down the street like a pipe organ!
