1973 bmw r60/5 - sold
1973 BMW R60/5, LWB, black, large fuel tank, 70200 kms, $4500.00 <- sold
Well maintained and extensively modernized to ‘better than new’ mechanical condition, while care was taken to keep the original appearance. This model year has the rare feature of having both kick start and electrical starter. VIN number of frame matches the engine.
The bike is located on the east side of Toronto, and can be seen by appointment. Email thorongil2@hotmail.com
Ideal bike for an active rider who appreciates vintage European motorcycles. It is also a fun bike to work on, or to learn motorcycle maintenance and repairs. Most parts for it are still available from BMW, as well as used on Ebay or aftermarket ones over the internet.
Please understand that it is a bike I ride as often as I can – it is not a clean and polished museum piece. Expect to see 40 year old finish (yes, I swapped many corroded and unsightly bits for stainless steel ones but have not touched the paint) and some road grime.
Includes:
original set of 3 Craven hard bags and mounting hardware
original owner’s manual and Clymer repair manual.
binder of printout if BMW parts schematics
bunch of spare parts, special tools, original parts and hardware that was removed and replaced by new ones
Following work was performed within the past few years:
Cylinders rebored to 1[SUP]st[/SUP] oversize, new pistons, rings, wristpins installed.
New valves, guides, springs, lifters etc.
New Viton front end main seals (crankshaft and camshaft)
New timing chain assembly
Crankcase breather valve replaced and converted to the new type
New stainless steel pushrod tubes, new seals
Dual plugged
New Omega electronic ignition system for dual plugged BMW (crankshaft ignition timing pickup), new ignition wires, caps, spark plugs
New Dyna high energy dual ignition coils
New charging system - alternator upgraded from original 180W to 280W, new stator, rotor, solid state voltage regulator, and rectifier (diode board)
Omega sealed gel battery
New, rerouted main battery to ground wire
New electrical harness – all new BMW wiring, modified to include main fuse
New dual horn with own (fuse and relay) wiring harness, as loud as a car horn
Palo Alto rebuilt speedometer/tachometer – white face, km/h, new UV-resistant needles, new warning light lenses.
New Corbin seat
New handlebars (original BMW part), top brace, caps
New rubber bits – front fork gaiters, shaft drive boot etc.
All new, stainless steel filler and drain plugs (drain plugs magnetic where possible)
Vented front end engine cover (from a /6) original cover cleaned and stored.
New, adjustable rear Koni shocks with stainless steel covers (original shocks stored)
Stainless steel rear axle

Tires in great shape
Stainless steel hardware kit (nuts and bolts)
