It's possible I've, uh, scooped things at a transfer station before. The electronics recycling bin is a treasure trove of stuff thrown out by people who apparently just couldn't be bothered to try to sell it, or didn't realize it's value. I scooped 2 virtually brand new Chromebooks a few years back that had clearly been given to kids (based on the stickers on them) and received the warm "Dad, Chromebooks suck!" welcome...and off they went to the recycling bin at the transfer station apparently. I brought them home, reset them, and sold them for $100 each.
A few months ago I picked up one of the Bosch powerboss construction site radios from the bin. Brought it home, found it even had a basically new looking (and performing) 18v Bosch lithium ion battery in it. Sold it for $125 and the drywaller who came to pick it up was over the moon as apparently they're $300 not including a battery to buy new. The thing looked 90% new and worked perfectly.
Call me a dumpster diver or whatever, but meh, I've probably made $500 in the last few years just quietly removing stuff from the electronics recycling bin there and bringing it home while getting rid of my own (actual) old electronics bound for recycling.
