15% ethanol coming?

The PBS news had a blip about the USA upping ethanol to 15% to cut fuel costs a few cents US per gallon. They implied it may hurt air quality and IMO the odor from the B.S. is the biggest factor in the air quality. What about future costs to motors?

Many Ford products are rated for E15.
Can’t say I agree with that option much as it lowers fuel economy.

EVERY modern car/light truck will run on E15 without issue. It's been required since about 2000. We've had "E" gas since 2005

Don't "flex fuel" cars use up to E85?

only shell premium ethanol free fuel for all my machines, even my lawn equipment, thanks.

Ethanol is "half burned" compared to regular hydro carbons (alcohol molecules are Hydrogen, Carbon AND Oxygen)... less energy per volume.

So the question is, will the lower energy content of the extra Ethanol offset any savings in the cost per gallon. Could be a false savings....

All that matters to the average Joe is the price the pump says all the other stuff is just noise.

Yup. Another government turd. Rewarded car makers for making vehicles compatible with E85 but afaik, you basically can't buy E85 in Canaderp. Maybe a literal handful carry it.

Edit:
Anyone know details about flex fuel branding? I assume they dont bother with an ethanol sensor and just lose a bunch of power when running on e85? The only people I know that run e85 are using it to make power and they need to upgrade fuel pumps, injectors and ideally add an ethanol gauge to try to avoid blowing it up.

gasoline 116090 BTU gallon

Ethanol 76330 BTU gallon only 65% of the energy

A gallon of 15% should have 98676 BTU from the gas and 11449 from the ethanol = 110125 BTU but if you mix gas and ethanol the individual quantities don't equal the combined quantity because of molecule size. To get a full gallon one has to start with more than the 85% and 15% of a gallon so theoretically the BTU content of a measured gallon of E15. Now they can advertize concentrated fuel.

If you only get 75% of the energy per gallon do you only pay 75% of the taxes?

When comes to corn squeezin's I'd prefer bourbon rather than ethanol.
I think it's the same C2H5OH.... the only difference is the mix.
