14 days New Vehicle Insurance on existing Policy

When shopping for insurance for a 4X4 truck, I was informed by one very helpful agent that all insurance policies in Ontario come with a standard clause that any new vehicle purchased by the policy holder will be covered for up to 14 days. The policy holder must inform the insurance company of the pending sale and I think provide a VIN. So if you can get a 10 day permitr, your existing insurance covers the "New vehicle".

This was later confrimed by 3 independant companies to be true. I also asked a recent agent if this also applied to Motorcycles, as they too are "vehicles" under the provicial highway and traffic act. The agent confirned that bike would be inculed in this policy clause.

However, when I was in line to resister my first bike, I dutifully call the event in and the agent now told me that Motorcycles are not inculeded in any such clause, as they are not vehicles. They are in a different class and I need to purcahse a full year of insurance and determine on the spot what coverage I would be needing. Grrrr.

Has anyone else heard of this clause and confirm if Bike are indeed covered? I feel they are and the agent was just trying to get a sale.

I believe the coverage can only be extended to another vehicle of the same class, on the assumption that you are only going to be keeping one. If you had an existing motorcycle policy it would be valid on your new ride while you picked it up and did the paperwork but a car or truck policy would not.

I've never owned a truck so I don't know how they fit in but have moved a few car policies between cars and bike policies between bikes, usually entirely by email without trouble from MOT, Services Ontario or my brokers.

Edit: I think I also read here that it is a standard feature of car policies and optional on bikes, but I'm too lazy to search.

Is is true,
However you get the same coverage of the vehicle you are replacing if you only have 1 veh in the household.
If you have more than one veh you get the common coverages of all your veh;s. Ie if you have full coverage on one veh and comp only on another you only have comp on veh #3
No coverages if you are in the biz of selling cars. All you vehicles must be with the sae company. If you have any other vehicles insured elsewhere then no coverage. Alyeays beeter to call the ins co right away
