My Suzuki DR650 dual sport turned over the 100 000 km mark on Friday, its been a great little bike, been to Labrador, Yukon, Alaska, California, Florida, on it and of course all points in between. Still does not need oil added between oil changes, head gasket replaced at 55000 km nothing else except general maintenance ie tires chain etc. It has been dropped several times, not always off road but no real damage. In fact rode to my sisters the day it turned the 100 000 +, parked it in her driveway and my brother in law ran into it when he came home on the golf cart (ya he's that old but younger than me) and knocked it over once again no damage just had to re-adjust the mirror.Certainly have got my moneys worth out of it

It's amazing what you can get out of equipment with a little TLC and without beating the heck out of it. I with I could change the oil in my phone and have it last longer than two years!

A large single cylinder thumper going 100K. Awesome. We need to bring this thread to the attention of the next person who says an inline 4 600cc engine will need to be rebuilt at 45k

Depending on the rider...

That's amazing, hopefully one day I can say the same for a bike that I own... Hopefully the next 100,000 are just as awesome!!!!

Neutral switch screws didn't back out into the clutch basket? Awesome! Countershaft seal stayed put? Excellent! Third gear still in one piece? Sweet!

Hmmmmm, I've had one bike hit 115k km and my current is at 50k km. Guess I should start shopping around for a backup motor.

Congratulations! I got close with my KLR at 88,000 before I sold it, but I didn't really ride it that gently and it was feeling its age.

Tell me you have an aftermarket seat on that thing?

That's great. Pics of the odometer would be nice

No, never had any of those problems, mine is a 2001. Are they common problems with the dr 650? I have had so few problems with it that I neverhad to go on to a trouble shooting/ weakness site for information. Maybe I have been very lucky

Those issues do come up on DR650 owner forum/threads to the degree that I loctited the neutral safety switch (needed removal of clutch and basket) and installed the new for 2013 factory Suzuki c/s seal retainer. 3rd gear, just keeping fingers crossed but there is an upgrade kit for that as well. I believe 2001 model year puts you into the maybe/maybe not cylinder base gasket leak category. You said you did the head gasket(not a known issue) did you mean base gasket?

The bike hasn't been ridden really hard, probably not to the "red line" often but I don't know, I am not sure because the 2001 does not have a tach like some earlier and later models, but it has been ridden all day on the 400 series and interstates at 120+ km/hr. I did ride it 1825 km in one day to purposely hit the 1000 mile mark for a days ride.

The SEAT: OMG yes, a different seat. I wasn't 20 minutes from the dealer on the day I picked it up and I called them and ordered the gel seat. The original seat must have been designed by a saddist, could only have made it worse by constructing it from a 2x6 and wrapping it in barbed wire.

Other than a new battery and maybe a full wipe once in awhile a phone should easily last 2 years if you take care of it. Smash it on the ground a few times, though, and probably not.

My 09 Ninja 250 is at about 80,000 km. Had her since 1.3 on the odo, looking forward to doing a 100!!

Congrats on the milestone. Did the odo roll over or stop at 99,999?

umm That bike does not have titanium valves now , does it ? :)

On a more congratulatory note: OP..you did what others sometimes cannot do on their cars, let alone motorcycles.... I hope I am able to this on one of my 'vehicles' some day !

Wow, lots of km in 5 years, way to go. You may turn the 100,000 this year. Mine increased more slowly because I have an FZ1 as well, also not riding as much as I get older and my part time job is almost full time. Also been doing a lot of dirt biking with my grandkids and that uses up much of the spare time I have left.
Yes it rolls over to zero after the 99999. I will post the pictures if I can figure out how to do it
This is the 4th bike I have rolled over the 100 000 mark the others were a 750 yamaha virago and 2 honda magnas but those 3 all had 20-30 k on them when I bought them. The 650 was my !st new bike, an impulse buy at the time. Went into the dealer to buy a litre of oil!
