For those who use to own or still do ( even better ) what have/had your experience with these either bikes...

with the GSXR i often hear about this " stator " issue and " FI " warning which is starting to put me off this bike

and would love to hear what CBR owners have to say about their bike.

THANKS

I own an 07 CBR RR. Absolutely zero issues with the bike have logged just over 15,000km with it this season on Sunday Funday rides. I purchased it from the original owner who had it dealer maintained and I have stuck to the service schedule or better. This is my third Honda motorcycle and I have had little to no issues with any of them. The last F4 I owned went to almost 90,000km before I got rid of it.

As for the GSXR's the rest of my riding group has 600/750's and 1 1000 from 07-12. No issues with any of them except for the 2012 GSXR1000 which pretty much spent the entire summer in service at Suzuki Canada with a drive-ability problem that they couldn't figure out. Ultimately I believe they ended up replacing the engine.

Just a group pic for reference (everybody likes pics)

About 35k on my k7 gsxr600 and no problems outside of regular maintenance. I haven't ridden many other bikes, save for a cbr125, ninja250 and '00 R6.

It's a stock bike for the most part, it's a pretty forgiving machine but can hit some good acceleration and speeds. I like the seating but it's a bit heavier than the R6 I rode and required a bit more to steer (could be the damper though compared to the 2000 R6). Everything feels sturdy on it. No FI codes or stator issues (the R6 had one though).

IT does have quite a bit of engine braking/bounce compared to the R6 which virtually has none (i'm talking about while staying in the same gear, not down shifting) when you let off the throttle. Can be remedied with exhaust or xTRE, avoidance of that speed/rpm range, etc. It's only noticeable at a very specific speed/rpm afaik. Some days I swear its so annoying when I'm in traffic but most days isn't really there. Could also just clutch in a bit.

Easy to do oil changes (keep the fairings on). No major complaints.

The stator is a very common problem with the Suzuki's. but I don't believe they have the same build quality as a Honda, or any of the other Japanese bikes (look at the sticker price)... I have over 45,000km's on my 08 CBR. Not one issue... Not a one.

I thought the issue with the gsxr was the reg/rec? That's what went on mine at around 20,000km. I had the fI light come on because I removed the servo for the exhaust, snipped the wire to the ecu and it was gone. Adjusted the valves at 20,000km because they were all out but no major issues. This was stricktly a track bike that I rode and only had for one season, it got used hard but maintained and I had no issues.

The f1 lights on the gixxers are usually because the butterfly valve isn't adjusted properly. If it's really bad it can affect the proformance of the bike. My stator went at about 20k, cost me about 500 to change out the whole charging system myself. From what I've seen riding other peoples bikes the gixxers can be a bit heavier. I've also found that the seating is a lot more comfortable and it seems to sit a bit lower than other bikes as well.

The cbr600rr is a hell of a machine, i put 28K on in 2 years, zero issues. If I could take the SS seating position all day I'd still have it.

They're both SS bikes and built to have the snot ridden out of them. Both will take tons of abuse and ask for more. The small issues that are putting you off buying the GSXR are not worth worrying about. Go look/sit/ride both bikes. Buy the one you like better (it's really that easy).

Not even close. Having owned 3 suzukis and now a honda the difference is quite noticeable.
Having said that, the gsxr 750 in my opinion is the best bang for your buck :D

^ this

unless you're super sentimental, you probably won't have it for the entire life of the bike. IT all comes down to which one you like more and feels better. Small things can get fixed. Just pick the bike you feel is for you and you'll be most happy with.

I like the unilight on my GSXR, it set it slightly apart from all the other 600s and I got it at a great price. Me and my buddies all ride diff 600 brands too (coincidentally).

I have both... a 2006 GSX-R 750 and a 2005 CBR600RR.
I bought the 750 with ~5000 KM's on it and now it has ~24,000 and didn't run into a single issue.
The r/r and stator issue is a common one but you can always buy aftermarket kits and relocate the r/r so you won't run into that issue.

Can't comment much on the CBR because I haven't taken it on the track yet, but I can't imagine it will be any better than my GSX-R!

My first gsxr had 60k km on it, my present one has 59k. Not one had any major issue. No rec no stator nothing. The first one had a connector issue due to weathering. The electrical connector corrode due to getting wet.

Replaced the stator and rectifier twice on my bike. The FI light is due to the wires not being the right length to set valve. There is a recall for to replace the wires.

The stators have been made more durable now since there was a recall on them too in the newer models.

Love my gsxr and I wouldn't trade it for anything else.
