Another wrecked bike I bought. took me a bit to get it started. It was in neutral and showed it on the dash, but it won't start with the side stand down. have to start it with the clutch in and side stand up. Bike running in neutral but as soon as you put the side stand down she shuts off. wtf??

Replace the kick stand switch.

Dying when the side stand is put down makes me think the side stand switch is working normally.

Is there a neutral switch that is separte from the gear position sensor?

Check your clutch lever switch......If the kickstand is up and the bike is in gear with the clutch pulled in and it still wont start, it could be your clutch switch lockout cutting the bike out...

it will only start with the side stand up and clutch pulled it. but as soon as the side stand is put down it shuts off even though its in neutral.

by pass your clutch switch / then kickstand swtich ....process of elimination...

they are both working the way they should. I just have to figure out why the bike thinks its in gear all the time, even when the neutral light is on.

If the neutral light is working, then so is the sensor....Doesnt really make sense...

If the neutral light is on and it's not in gear and it's detecting whether the clutch is pulled in and whether the kick stand is up, then is it possible that the wire that goes from the gear sensor to the neutral light "Y"s and the part that goes to the device that tells the bike to kill the engine isn't working? or is it possible that the part that tells the engine to kill is stuck in the position that says the bike is in gear even though it's not. I don't know anything about wiring but when both your sensors are getting some sort of response I'm lead to believe it's not a sensor.

So the neutral switch has a wire that goes to the dash, it also branches off to a Diode that then goes to the ECU. The Diode and plug for the Diode were broken off. stole the broken parts off another harness and it now works the way it should. :)

everybody goes to the side stand switch first, and the clutch switch was designed to protect the starter motor back in the late 70s. every manufacture had a hidden place in or near the harness for the silicone diode, which is only for the starter circut with the neutrual light.

I'm having a similar issue with my bike when I first take it out. Same thing with it being in neutral and the light showing neutral but I won't start with out the kick stand up. So the difference is it doesn't do this all the time and durring my rides after a stop the bike starts no problem and on Mondays ride it worked perfect. Oh, and after starting it like this I can put the kick stand down and the bike doesn't shut off. This all started about two weeks ago. Weird.

Kick stand switch malfunction, common on Suzukis...You can usually fix them by washing them out with some solvent, alot of times its just gummed up with chain mess
