Situation:

- Bought bike couple years ago with Yoshi RS-5 slip on.
- 2 weeks ago, FI light comes on and stays on.
- Obtained service code 63

I've heard things about block off plates, servo eliminator?

Is this required (http://www.servobuddy.com/Kawasaki-Servo-Buddy_p_8.html)?

Is it safe to ride with it on, or is it something I need to address immediately?

Someone help please?

A servo buddie will correct the problem.

You can also get your ECU flashed to disable the exhaust servo/valve and that'll solve the problem too (not to mention unlock the rest of your bikes potential) http://www.flash-tune.com/?wpsc_product_category=05-06-zx636

If you're going the ECU flash route make sure to tell them your running a yosh RS-5 slip-on and "you'd like the engine braking left like stock", and of course to disable the servo/code.

So I took out the servo motor and took it apart. Turns out the gear is messed up.

There's really no point to replace the gear right? This servo motor serves no purpose. Replace with servo buddy and I've freed up some space for a PC or whatever else I want to throw in there.

Sounds about right?

Can I run my bike without this plugged in and before I get the servo eliminator?

If you run an 05/06 with the servo cables unhooked and no servo rotation limiter, the bike will not run properly. That is why you get an FI light. I see this all the time on your model/year. You either need to add a limited or eliminator

Thanks Johnny. You wouldn't to have a eliminator lying around that I can buy off you do you?

That'll work! Are you free tomorrow? I can ride over to wherever you are. Let me know!

I have the exact same bike, 06 and had the same yoshi slip on for two years. ran the bike with the FI on and never had a problem. asked a few mechanics and they all said its nothing to worry about

Your mechanics are morons, FI light is on because the computer is telling you there is a problem with the bike...

If you dont have a rotation limiter installed or a servo eliminator, the servo motor will just spin in circles and send the wrong info back to the ECU...That is why the FI light will be on and the bike does not run properly....That might be ok for you, but its not right...

Im sure theres a reason why the light is on so not arguing that. Im just saying that the bike has been running pretty much exactly the same for two years with the (slip on) light on as before i had the slip on. Maybe its causing damage in a very very very slow way because i cant feel any difference in the ride.

Got the servo replaced by Johnny, bike runs fantastic. FI light is GONE. Thanks Johnny!

Ashkan, head over to Johnny's and get that FI outta there. I'm sure you'll notice a difference with it gone.

I think one problem is: if anything else happens to the bike that would cause the FI light to come on, you wouldn't notice it. As the light remaining on is just standard routine now.

No problem....

And FYI slow actually already had a servo rotation limiter that came with his Yosimura slipon installed on his bike...However the previous owner before him had either installed it incorrectly themselves or by whoever installed it for them. The rotation limiter is supposed to mount on top of the stock cable cam, it has tabs to locate itself on top of it in the right orientation. They took the cam off and mounted the rotation limiter right onto the servo motor, without the OEM cable cam there is nothing to locate it in the right orientation ..That caused the FI light to be on and also for his servo to strip itself out and fail, it was not turning at all when I worked on it...I installed a spare servo I had in my parts bin, and installed the OEM cable cam I also had then the rotation limiter on top of that properly. After that instantly after turning the bike on the servo cycled and moved correctly and the FI light went away...

both of mine mount right on the servo motor.

Both of your what? Yoshimura? Or other brand rotation limiters?

If they are Yoshimura and bolt right onto the servo without the OEM cam then you also have them installed wrong...If you have a different brand then your are talking about a different brand and setup....I have installed many of these, most bolt right onto the servo...However the Yoshimura is not designed that way...If you dont believe me go on Yoshimura website and look at the PDF for the install, its all in there...

step 12 and 13, remove the bolt but place the rotation limiter on top of the OEM cable cam....They call it a hexagonal disc
"13 Place stock hexagonal disc and supplied washer onto
servo motor with holes facing the “V” in the Yoshimura
stopper bracket"

didn't know you were being brand specific..lol yeah mine are akro and hindle.

I need some help from you if you have time. these forks I got parts from you for are turning into a nightmare. I have no idea what I have and where to get parts. can you get me pics of the stock fork pistons?

Go there click on "front fork", its a USA site but all the part numbers are the same in Canada...Any kawi dealer can order any part you need on that fiche

Man when I had my 05 in Jamaica I had to try and try setting and resetting the cables until I got it to work. The previous owner had disconnected it and wired it open saying that the bike would run better. WRONG but eventually I figured it out and the bike ran like a thief.
