I just installed a GPS "Smart" TRE (Timing Retard Eliminator) into my track bike 03 GSXR600 and now it won't go past 2nd gear for some reason. The bike worked fine at the last trackday (2 weeks ago), and wasn't started since then with the battery disconnected. Oil was changed 3 trackdays ago with Motul 300V. I took the GSP TRE off and same thing it won't go past 2nd gear. I don't know if the TRE has anything to do with it, but the bike was fine last track day and never had any gear issues before. Any Ideas what I should look for? I got a trackday this Thursday and I don't want to miss it because of this

What's the issue? It won't shift into 2nd or go past 2nd gear into 3rd?

I'm thinking it's a mechanical issue....try tapping the shifter with the back of a screw driver or small mallet ...see if that makes it shift.

Are you trying to shift it sitting still or riding it down the road?

I've played around with the clutch cable so far, fully in - fully out, it doesn't do anything. I tried rolling the bike while not running, and trying to change up from second, the odd time maybe once in 20+ attempts it goes to 3rd with a lot of difficulty, then up to 4th, 5th but can't get in 6th no matter what. My best educated guess is the TRE may not have anything to do with it even though it was the only thing that's different from last track day when the bike ran fine. Now I'm probably thinking, the shifter forks are probably bent or damaged in some way. How long does it take to replace shifter forks? I'm thinking I can maybe take them off my street bike and put them on the trackbike Wednesday morning so I can go to my trackday...

It shifts fine between 1, N, 2. But can't go any higher than 2, that is 3,4,5,6

I tried all methods, rear wheel on the stand while running; while engine off and moving the rear wheel with my hand. While riding the bike with engine on, 1,N,2 shift fine can't go to 3+. While rolling the bike with engine off same issue as before

i havent pulled that motor out or done any clutch jobs on those 01-03's...but the later gen's the trans slid out.

i think you'd have to split the cases for your bike. it is possible to swap trans out...or just swap the motor out for your track day, that would be easier.

Can't swap motors, track is 03 GSXR600 street is 03 GSXR1000, my guess is the shifter forks should be the same but I haven't researched it yet to confirm.

drain the oil....see if yiou can find metal

Looks like there was nothing wrong with the shifter forks, the allen bolt that holds the gear shifting cam had come loose. Need to Loctite this mofo and bike should be good...

Wow, that's great news! Doesn't appear any damage was done?!?

Only the damage I did to get to that bolt and install it lol. I had to sacrifice the clutch sleeve hub cause I didn't have the clutch tool or an impact wrench, and that allen bolt got bent when I put it back in cause I was using an enormous torque wrench since I couldn't find and extension for my small one. It's ok, I'll get this bike fixed within a week if I can find those parts locally. If not dealer is the last resort
