I would happily use mass transit if it didn't cost virtually the same amount as using my car, while also costing me at least double the amount of time. And I do work downtown, while living in the suburbs, and never had the opportunity for a job remotely like the one that I have now prior to...

    TV shows currently watching

I'm enjoying it fully as much as I did season 1, but am stringing it out a bit rather than doing a binge. Thinking that I might pull out either the "Fringe" or "Babylon 5" boxed set, sometime soon.

That whole "governance by sound-bite" thing again. Politicians who want to build support with specific groups or who have this hidebound doctrine over something, so won't try a little logic once in a while.

Sometimes I feel like the more radical cycling advocates, in Toronto, won't be happy until there's protected bike lanes on every street and riding a bike gets you where you're going faster than a car, if cars are even permitted. Then again these are the ones who only read the HTA the way that...

Law Enforcement - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.....

Reminds me of the days when OPP would set up as a fake road crew, with a white van, to catch speeders at Forks of the Credit.

Rather interestingly, the incident that they cite as one of the things spurring the safety campaign involved a car travelling at more than double the speed limit, as determined during the crash reconstruction. Reduced speed limits, cameras, and bicycle lanes don't stop those people. As I need to...

When my family moved to Brampton, in the early '70s, Dixie Road was a 2 lane cattle track with a 50MPH (80Kmh) speed limit. Now it's a 6 lane virtual highway with a 60 Kmh limit.

Law Enforcement - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.....

I wonder if someone just got tired of him and made a false gun report to get police on him? Wouldn't be the first time. EDIT - Story here: https://www.barrietoday.com/police-beat/witnesses-hear-gunshot-as-armed-standoff-with-police-continues-9834457

Indeed, this tactic is "banned in some countries." It's called entrapment.

Seattle has a fix for this, in areas that have a lot of commercial driveways. They bar left turns with a short, narrow curb that runs down the centre, where there wouldn't be enough room for a proper median. They then have advanced greens, with signs that explicitly permit U-turns at those...

Here's an example of when I act differently, when signalling to make a turn. https://maps.app.goo.gl/k98hhjUSqLc4Ri1F7 When I take this exit lane I will signal to move into it, then turn off my signal. If I'm going to turn into the gas station I'll signal roughly 100' before. If I'm going...

If you get pulled over for not signalling then there was at least one vehicle that could have been affected by your move ;) EDIT - It should be noted that Ontario is rather strange, in this respect. Don't try arguing that in the majority of US States, for example, where signalling is a...

You would need to show me case law on that before I would accept it, as I've been in court when such cases were decided. And, in my situation, I had intent to turn and was in proximity to the turn, requiring me to signal.

Incorrect. Failure to yield is failure to yield. The vehicle travelling on the main road, in a straight line, has right of way.

My point was that cruising around aimlessly or leaving when a call comes in that needs to be attended is pretty much a wash.

I'm willing to forgive them that. You have someone in a 2 ton weapon, who has shown a willingness to run into things. They can respond to calls from that location, should they come in. Officers on that sort of duty wouldn't likely be doing traffic anyway, for example. Maybe they could by chance...

Quebec plate. Interesting. Edit - Judging by the uniformity of the damage I would say she sideswiped a yellow painted concrete post.

I generally do that as well but in this case, the turn lane starts literally immediately after the driveway into the Timmies. https://maps.app.goo.gl/2ic3Yg4TU2YtRjKR8

I took a day off work to get my winter tires swapped onto the car. As I was heading over for my 7:30am appointment, I git stuck behind a car turning into a Timmies. I'm also signalling but to take the right turn lane that starts at that driveway, not the driveway itself. Someone decides I must...
