    Eating out

When family or friends come from out of town and we are going out to eat where to go is always a debate for us, we are paying. IMO we should go to something higher end that they don't typically have at home but that always results in all the Toronto is so expensive cliche (or small portion...

    Good news thread

Years back my wife accidentally paid the 407 by mistake (online banking) when trying to pay another bill (clicked on the wrong one). And to top it off, it was for a car/account that was long gone and she noticed weeks later... I basically told her good luck getting that money back (I expected...

    Hudson's Bay closing

To be fair when winding down something like this you need some staff to stay to the end. Most people if they know they are losing their jobs with no severance in a few months are looking for a jobs now and there is a risk you end short people before the last days. How do they solve that?? As...

The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

The Bay used to have a pretty full watch section back in the day. Nothing too highfalutin but the usual suspects Hamilton, Tissot, Movado, Seiko, etc.... plus some of the total fashion brands (Boss, Kenneth Cole, whatever) and a very good selection of quality workhorses Timex, Citizen, etc...

Has anyone else been sick more than normal this winter?

We got hit late fall/early winter with the bad chest cold that was going around. It took over a month to get rid of the congestion. There was also a bad head cold...

    Motel & Hotel Stays

For casual no specific timeline trips and pre smart phone we started our day fairly early and around 4PM we would stop and look for a motel/hotel. If they were booked up (or too many $$$) at that exit we went to the next, always had a room before dinner. There was some pre planning if we were...

    Eating out

For those looking to get together with friends at home instead of eating out. AND save a few bucks... Years ago we used to do cooking nights, all were at my place but the chef for each night rotated through the group. The chef planned the entire meal, they bought/brought the ingredients and...

    Hudson's Bay closing

From a marketing perspective it is too bad they didn't get another year or two and drive the buy Canadian, it may have helped... although owned by US and products come from overseas but I said marketing not reality... There are no surprises with this but we did note during xmas shopping that...

    Eating out

We go out to eat on average twice per week. Some weeks more some weeks less. We have a good range of places (pubs, ethnic, fancy) all walking distance (few blocks) and we typically range from $70 to $150 for my wife and I with drinks but it can go much higher at the nicer places (less often) or...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Depending on the size a couple of wood straps is all you need. Secured to the existing drywall on each side and spanning the hole. Secure the patch to them. I wouldn't take down an entire sheet unless I really had to.

    Blocked IPs?

Is there a range of blocked IPs? Starting a few weeks ago the site became unreachable from my home IP but I can reach it via cell, from work or from any other IP all with the same devices. Around the same time my home routers IP changed (from ISP work).

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

PSA.... check that the power is off even if you turned the power off. Bathroom reno in progress and I turned the power off to the room some time ago. I was finishing up the wiring yesterday in prep for drywall and I got lifted pretty good. Turns out my wife tripped another breaker and turned...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Check the gauge of wire it may already be sufficient for 50 amps (#6) but like others said it is unlikely you would trip the 40 amp breaker unless you turn everything on... Don't swap out to a 50 amp breaker unless the wiring can handle it. Also make sure the current wiring is grounded. You are...

    Did you exercise today?

Sadly the weight loss is (likely) mostly water weight (from dehydration) and liver glycogen reserves. Which will come back fast once over the virus. A pound of fat is ~3500 calories. Eight pounds of fat in three days is a 9,333 calorie deficit per day which is very unlikely. At most two pounds...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

https://www.ctvnews.ca/barrie/article/muskoka-store-reopens-with-nostalgic-twist-one-year-after-fire/ Appears there was a fire sometime in the last few years and they reopened in an adjacent property. So was this the new store or the old fire damaged one? If the fire damaged one maybe the roof...

    No tow points!?!

When using a tow rope or strap to pull someone out drape a blanket or jacket over it at the mid point. If one end lets go under load for whatever reason the rope/strap will now fold at the mid point instead of flying back and nailing one of the vehicles...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

If I had the guts it would be short, short, short time... The multiple on the stock is crazy and has been for forever. As a car company they should be a $30 stock and with declining sales on the way down. At the same time even with all the pullback the stock is higher right now than it was on...

    The Tax Thread

It is paid out with taxes deducted. As an employee every bonus I have ever received from any company had taxes deducted... But in the same context it could just be regular pay: They take $100 per pay and put it into the group RRSP pretax vs Same $100 pretax in pay that gets taxed at 50% and you...
