    Canada Post - Huge losses

Think very carefully about that choice. Does UPS offer a Defined Benefit Pension? If not stay where you are; you will thank me in 25 years. A DB pension has become a white elephant and is just a dream for the vast majority of Canadians. I have several friends and relatives who are retired CP...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

That happened to me a few years ago. It immediately sank out of sight and it's still in there somewhere, that is if it hasn't completely disintegrated by now.

The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

I've tried that same manoeuvre on First Street. Signal my move into new right/through lane, turn off signal right away, then turn it on again immediately after the mall entrance. It only works if there is no one waiting to exit the mall. This action also can cause a conflict with those waiting...

What did you do in your garage today..?

Well I parked the bike in its corner and placed the snowblower at the door in the hopes that snow will be arriving this year. I also found a use for those two plastic bins that have been sitting empty in the basement for two years after our move to this house. Saw this idea online and decided to...

The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

I will still wait until after I pass the last driveway to turn on my signal, in order to avoid any confusion as to whether I am turning or not. There is a mall entrance/exit here in Orangeville on First Street just north of Hansen that causes this same issue. The entrance is located immediately...

    More trouble in snowmobile land

When we lived in Dryden we had a Polaris single that took three of us to get started. Me on the handle and two friends pulling on the rope. That thing was slow but could pull a toboggan with a load of kids on it all day.

    More trouble in snowmobile land

No real winter last year, at least here in Southwestern Ontario. Our hill didn't open until January and then closed early. We missed both the Christmas and March Breaks, our busiest times. The problem was with the amount of rain we had. Just as the snowmakers were able to get six or seven runs...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

The roads in Orangeville were heavily salted at stops signs yesterday morning. We had some moisture and a very heavy frost the night before so the roads were icy in the early AM. Some of that frost was still visible in the late PM on the northern pitches of many roofs. There was also snow on the...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

Up here the change over was in full swing in some of the older neighbourhoods. All of the newer built areas, (anything less than 30 years old), already had super box delivery only. But the older areas had always been door-to-door. It's those areas where super boxes were installed and then as the...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

I think they tried to eliminate all door to door deliveries years ago and the government (can't think of which one) stopped this process midway through the change due to union opposition about job losses. Here in Orangeville there are streets where some continue to get door to door delivery...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

I had the opposite experience. I grew up in Dryden and we would often go out snowmobiling when it was -40 and think nothing of it. When we moved down to Toronto it just felt colder because of the damp cold caused by the open waters of Lake Ontario. That's not a problem up north where everything...

What did you do in your garage today..?

I'll be testing mine this week. Then an oil change on it and I'm ready for the next season.

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

That's the ESR app. Unfortunately they have discontinued supporting it recently. It still works, but doesn't retain any history or your profile that kept track of every ride. So I have to take a screenshot after saving the ride, because once you exit the app the information disappears. Not sure...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Not too bad a day for a ride yesterday. Quite windy and around 10C. Got out for a 201.5 km ride and hit up a few of my favourite roads, some of them twice. Not a fan of the tar/stone surface treatment on Pretty River Road; it's loud and has questionable traction. Some nice new pavement on CR9...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Beautiful day for a ride yesterday. I took a short loop to the north and saw two other bikes along the way. I'm hoping to get out again on Friday, possibly up to Pretty River Road and CR9. After that I'll start carrying Stabil with me to add at fuel stops, just in case it happens to be my last...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Yeah, retired for 13 years now. I do work two days a week at the golf course / ski hill when they are operating. I'm currently between seasons so fully retired until the hill opens in December. My rides are always north from here, so I don't deal with very much traffic on weekdays.

What did you do in your garage today..?

That was not the common practice 50+ years ago. Snows only on the rears because all cars/trucks were rear wheel drive. It's only in the last couple of decades that the snow tires on all four corners has become the norm.

What did you do in your garage today..?

I've used four snow tires on every car I have ever owned going back the the late '70s. It is a lesson I learned from my father from when we lived in Dryden back in the late '60s. Back then he started to run four studded snow tires on his car. He did this after he was T-boned at an intersection...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

After our two day ride back in the summer I felt that way. I didn't want to go for a ride for several days, but as soon as I hit the road it was ahh this is great. I don't typically ride on weekends and prefer the more peaceful weekday rides when there is far less traffic. However, after...

What did you do in your garage today..?

Even though I don't have disposable lug nuts on my car I was getting fed up with the seasonal tire change over and decided to buy new All-Weather tires to replace the OEM summer tires that came on my 2016 CX3. I then sold the old Michelin X-Ice tires, which were mounted on aluminium rims. They...
