To Shinko or not to Shinko

Nothing at all wrong with Shinko tires. You're not looking for that last hundredth of a second on the track.

    Shady sellers and time wasters

I send snarky sarcastic replies to the lowballers. I'm selling a bike for $2500 and I get stupid emails saying "I'll give you $1500 if you will deliver it to me" so I send back a message saying "Sure, I'll deliver the bike for $1500, in addition to the $2500 for the bike." Or there is the...

    Glasses and Helmets

New Shark helmets have removable padding at the temples to accommodate glasses. Works quite well.

    Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

Note that I said EMERGENCY braking, as in a full panic stop situation. But also remember that the ABS will engage whenever the wheel stops, which can occur even with light pressure in the event the road surface changes (ice, oil, water on metal or paint). Like I said, it's great tech, but a...

    Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

That's why I'm torn about it. I love the tech, but as much as we do our best to teach students the skills we can't force them to practice once they leave our care. I have a buddy that worked on a demo truck that almost got into trouble when they switched out an ABS bike for an identical model...

    Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

I'm really torn on the idea of ABS for new riders. I agree that it's great tech and I'm a huge fan of it. My only problem is that it all but eliminates the need to develop good emergency braking skills in a new rider and should that rider switch (borrow a friends bike or on a demo ride or...

Thinking About getting a Yamaha Stryker

I took one for a demo ride late last year and thought it was a pretty nice bike. I would definitely have considered it if I had seen a used one in my price range. I don't thing you'd go wrong with it.

Is clutchless shifting bad for your bike?

A point to remember, if you are downshifting to slow down remember to tap your brake (front or rear, doesn't matter) so your brake light flashes to let traffic behind you know you are slowing down. Many drivers have difficulty recognizing that bikes are slowing without the visual reference of...

Going to Cabot Trail - what to take?

Bring layers of clothing, I did the cabot trail 2 years ago and we had days where it was 30+ and other times we rolled through a coastal section and you could see your breath it was so cold. Make sure your tires are good for the trip, we lost a half day to an unexpected need for a tire on one...

What's the RIGHT cruiser for me?

I went through 3 seats for it, stock, modified stock (gel/memory foam inserts), and a Corbin. None of them are nearly comfortable enough to last for a full tank of gas. And I don't like the Vstrom, the 650 is ok, but the 1000 is terrible. Really? What's wrong with me? Absolutely nothing. I...

Are 20 year old bikes good for commuting?

If it was a $1000 bike and you're not afraid to do some maintenance yourself, then sure. But if you need reliable transportation to get you to work everyday and can't afford a breakdown then go for something newer.

    Edge Performance Bradford Reviews Anyone?

I bought my first bike from them and they were great. Would happily deal with them more if they weren't so bloody far from me.
