    riding home with new tire

Just take it easy for the first 50 to 100 kms, to wear off any mold release left on the tires.

    The One That Got Away

I've had a few bikes over the years and for the most part enjoyed each one for its own merits but had no trouble letting it go for the next one. The one exception I wish I could have kept was my 1997 Honda CBR1100XX, aka Blackbird. That was one smooth bike. No regrets about what I got next and I...

    Semi-pro bike cleaning tip

Actually, oven cleaner is great for removing melted bootheel from chrome pipes from inattentive passengers. Use on warm (not hot) pipes and thoroughly mask any nearby painted areas; it will strip the paint. Let it sit briefly, wipe clean with a soft cloth, and rinse well. Shine up the pipes with...

    Car got broken into

Had my old truck broken into at Brampton GO station some years ago, nothing inside to steal, but crackhead@ssh0le destroyed the ignition trying to steal it. Cost me $800 to fix. They caught him trying to steal another car a few hours later.

And use very sparingly. For some reason, only the lemon version works.

Are you old enough to remember these motorcycle shops in To?

It's in Kitchener, on Victoria Street, near the Guelph border. Just keep going west past Royal Distributing for a few miles. It's in a chalet-style building.

WTF! Simcoe Street Parking has GONE! Cycle lanes instead...!

Yup. Downtown cyclists largely see themselves as the chosen ones, entitled to do whatever they want and to hell with the rest of the mere mortals. I work at Yonge and College and the city planted trees in front of the new condo tower, Aura. Poor things were barely in the ground before cyclists...

Are you old enough to remember these motorcycle shops in To?

The old magazine was great, thanks for posting the link. Interesting to see the letters to the editor; concerns about some riders going to fast, excessive noise. Some things never change.

Are you old enough to remember these motorcycle shops in To?

I moved to the GTA in '83, so missed out on some great shops. But I bought bikes at CycleWorld West, CycleWorld East, and McBride's. Kai at McBride's was great. John McBride not so much.

Check this thing out! Thoroughbred Industries Stallion

I took one for a test ride a few years ago. It would be w-a-a-a-y down on my list of vehicles to own. If I ever get to the point of needing more than 2 wheels for a "fun" vehicle, I'd get a Miata (or M5 or whatever it is).

    Laconia NH June 2014

Great pics! I went to Laconia in '81, had a blast. Food was just as "healthy" then, too.:D

A car/bike hybrid with all of the inconveniences of both and none of the conveniences of either.

    Whatcha think about this rider

Motorcycling isn't for everyone and there's no shame in that. If you find that even small incidents such as this rattle you after two seasons, it's going to affect your ability to ride safely. Don't force yourself to continue doing something you're not cut out to do; I'm sure your family and...

    Happy Canada Day

Sixty years ago my parents left Europe - still reeling from the effects of WWII - and started new lives in Canada. Like so many before them and after, they arrived with little more than a suitcase and determination (and in their case, my sister, who was 4). I couldn't be more grateful. To all...

    Failing to stop

Sometimes laws are created because of the lobbying of a single individual or group or because a particularly horrifying incident occurred. Witness the number of laws named after children, e.g., Adam's Law. There were already laws in place against predators but because of one parent, enhancements...

    Failing to stop

I disagree but acknowledge there are no absolutes, nor is the effectiveness of any law provable, since you can't state with certainty if people are not doing something (or doing it) solely because of a law. However, as an example, most of us pay taxes because the penalties for not doing so are...

    Failing to stop

So in your estimate, how many deaths are required for a law to be justifiable? 10? 100? 1000? Just one if it's someone you love?

    A few disco questions

Your brakes will be fine, it's the road (and your own reaction to rain) that can cause the biggest problems. You're going to get wet. Rain will seep in places. Get over it. It's only water and once you're soaked, you can't get any wetter. Focus on your riding, not how wet you are. The first 10...

Samsung doing something about distracted driving.

That is actually effin' brilliant. Sort of a breathalyser interlock but for stupidity and inattentiveness instead of BAC.
