I'm looking at Miska trailers just to get the weight estimate, a steel frame 5x10 is at 1115 lbs, so let's say max 1200 lbs for a 6x10. An aluminum one would be lighter by 100-200 lbs. So will definitely be under the 2700 lbs of towing capacity of the Subaru.

That's a terrible idea. If you crash, that helmet will be wearing your arm for protection. As GreyGhost mentioned, no solid objects on you or your backpack that can cause serious damage in a crash. I've used a bungee net with the helmet on the passenger seat, the odd time I had to carry it.
