EBC Double-H Sintered brake pads, to be exact.

At 2:49 (slow mo), you can see what appears to be a part scraping the road, perhaps the right foot peg. This seems to unsettle the rider, as you see his left foot come off the shifter. This could possibly be why the rear had reduced traction as well.

With those two bikes to chose from, for commuting, I would go with the X for the upright seating position. For highway riding I would definitely get a touring screen.
