I'm with Statefarm and my insurance for the bike went down 50% and the vehicle went down 30%. They will adjust the premium and it'll reflect on your monthly payments

I think it's a lot harder with sports bikes and cruisers as opposed to scooters. In other countries, it's mostly scooters and they ride it on a daily basis.
Your story sounds pretty common, although not a lot of people would like to admit it has happen to them. My first bike was dropped just like yours did. It was on a slight grade and my foot was too far in the hold the bike upright.

It is definitely not legal to safety outside of the licensed shop. I know this first hand because we got a shop at work and MTO comes by to check out everything.
