Wtf is a fair play clause? Are you referring to "some vintage bikes ask race offcial"
That line is negated by having CC limits for different engine configurations.
The Sportsman classes were basically created to as you already stated find a middle ground between production and superbike.
Running an RZ on a stock air box is stupid, everyone and their mother uses a Yboot. But as far as wheels are concerned, even in the VRRA RZs stay on 18inch wheels and...
The 650 Hawk in LWT Sportsman is a typo. (as if you look its a mddleweight bike too).
The LWT production rules for 2017:

Any year Hyosung 250 GT
Any year CBR 250
Any year Kawasaki Ex 300

No.
The new lwt production rules are for bikes 390cc and lower.
The gs500 will be a lwt sportsman bike with lwt superbike class as a bump class

LWT sportsman rules use the same basic rules as the VRRA P4F3 class. In the description of the class, it gives you a list of bikes that would be accepted.
As of 2017 LWT Sportsman has ben re-added to the RACE series.
As the RACE/SOAR combined rules were a complete and utter failure.

What will likely happen is you as a new racer on a 1000 will be watched by chosen individuals to assess whether or not you know own what you are doing on a race track.
From you lap times, to how you deal with other riders.
From then the people in power will put you where you should be...
I Agree with Brian....
Lost Era should be 1992-2002 as far as I am concerned. Then of course you would have people complaining about 2003+ cant win them all
You should give the Bridgestone S21 Evo a try, they are a great 90/10 tire (like the Rosso) and hold up a little better. If you want a great track tire try the RS10 Bridgestone as well. It replaced the BT-003 in 2016.
Also Michelin has released brand new racing tires that come in 140s and 150s...
Also, just fyi...
For suspension.... the bike is NOT good for 230lbs on setting #7....maybe 190lbs to set proper sag. I installed this https://calsport.co.uk/yamaha-yzf-r3-15-2015/hyperpro-suspension/hyperpro-shocks-and-springs/SB-YA03-0AB/ Well worth the money.
You can run a 150 on the rear of the R3.
I mounted my race take offs from my 400 on the R3. Pilot Road 3 rear and a Pilot Power 3 front.
The michelin tires that come on the R3 (Bias Ply streets) are garbage and not at all confidence inspiring.
I have a Hyper pro front and rear in my R3. Fantastic shocks.
And a YSS Bandit 1200 shock in my Bandit 400.
They are budget, but they work and work well. HyperPro is just rebranded as RaceTech in North America they are built in the same factories.
