    Heim joint bearing protection

I used one, seemed to keep the mud out,but I think it was showing wear from the mudflap.Cheap enough for you to try,you can also get a guard to protect against mudflap wearing on the swingarm.

Easy way is buying a bike with ownership, less hassle for you.I have bought a couple of bikes without and you do have to do some extra work and depending on your local MTO could be a pain, personally I never had that big of an issue. Its just less work for you if there is a ownership.

    First dirt bike

Don't forget a yz250 has almost the same power as a 450 4stroke,but the power is not as smooth as a 250f.A YZ 250 can be a beast at full throttle.Try not to ride alone there are always guys here that want to meet up at Ganaraska Forest.

What Ash said,KDX 220 is a very good bike for a beginner,a bit dated but the motor is great for woods. I actually use to ride a KX125 with the 220 KDX engine, great motor. They are hard to find though, and might need some work.

Starting out on a 125 two stroke might be good also, they are narrower than a 250 and a little lighter.I know a yz 250 can be a handful for a beginner,I did see a couple of KTM 200s that are within your budget lately and KTMs can be altered a little to tame them down with their powervalve and map...

    KTM 2T's vs Others

You're right but KTM has 9.5 litre gas tank,6 spd, electric start, hydaulic clutch and lights. My 300 also got blue plated.

    KTM 2T's vs Others

I have had all brands of dirt bikes, nothing compares to KTM.You can almost dismantle all the bodywork as well as remove the seat with one wrench, air cleaner is also easy.As said the electric start and hydraulic clutch are great to have no matter what people say.Very tunable motor never had any...

I got my M in 74 at the Warden & Eglington office, still did a road test.First I was made to go thru some pylons stop on a line explained a few controls, then they watched me go up Warden turn around and come back.Paid my $3.00 and got my temporary licence.

    Non name-brand dirt bikes

Just watched the offroad video on this bike and the suspension does not look impressive at all,not much travel at all.It just looks cheaply made, get your money back and buy a used brand name bike.
