    Stock up on that liquor!

They wouldn't be on strike if the majority of workers hadn't voted to go on strike in the first place, so they actually do have a choice. They likely voted to go on strike because on previous occasions the "made whole" wording in the return to work protocol has lessened the financial impact of...

    The 2024 Great GTAM Blackout

I went to work at the golf course in the rain, which fortunately stopped by 1pm.

    Stock up on that liquor!

We did a quick cross-border shopping day yesterday and I couldn't believe how busy it was in the Peace Bridge Duty Free (leaving Canada). I've been in that place many times and have never seen so many people in there. Not sure if these were Canadians who were planning on returning the same day...

    2024 Day Trips

I haven't been up to Beaver Valley Road in a few years. After hearing this report I'll wait until fall before I venture up there.

The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

Which is why I noted that the vehicle approaching from behind the police vehicle should slow as they pass. Since it is impossible to provide a full lane when passing a stopped police vehicle on a two lane roadway, even the cam car should move over to the right as far as possible and slow as they...

The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

I've always been told that it is the responsibility of both drivers to share the available roadway when passing a stopped/parked vehicle regardless of where the painted centre line might be. In the video the roadway looks to be sufficiently wide to allow the cam car to move to the right and...

    Sportrack vs thule vs yakima

Here's my set-up. No lifting and it stores out of the way. Just lower onto the rack and attach to the crossbars.

    Sportrack vs thule vs yakima

That's pretty much how all roof boxes end up damaged. Either that or those overhead height limiting bars they put over the entrances to some outdoor parking lots to keep out large trucks. When I had my Tribute with a Thule ski box I was always on the look-out for clearance issues, but wasn't...

    Garage Doors

Yes. Apparently their prices have increased over the past few years.

    2024 Day Trips

Got in another scenic ride to work yesterday. BTW, roadwork is about to begin on 124 between Hornings Mills and CR 21. Also, Concession 8 Nottawasaga is closed between Glen Huron and 124 (bridge repair) and Riverside Drive between CR 9 and Nottawasaga 15/16 for road resurfacing, which...

    Garage Doors

I wouldn't mess with the side spring type. My old door had the overhead style springs that are around the pipe that attaches to the pulley and cables. When those springs break they don't go anywhere because the pipe keeps them in place. The danger is when you are winding the tension up or down.

    Garage Doors

About 15 years ago had to take apart the wooden double garage door on a previous house because the spring broke while both cars were inside. That door was heavy AF but I was able to disassemble and reassemble it by myself without too much trouble. The fun part was replacing the broken spring...

    Garage Doors

That's a pretty good quote. I just got a quote of $5,109.27 (+tax) in June to replace our 14' x 7' door (one and a half car garage). We decided to keep our current door for the time being. BTW, the current door is an insulated steel door and the bottom of the panel that touches the garage floor...

    Electric Lawn Mower?

I still use paper maps when I'm on the bike. I also had paper CAA triptiks for our recent drive to Florida in March. They were help planning the route and I took them along as a backup to the onboard GPS in the car. Good thing too because the GPS took us on three separate unnecessary detours on...

The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

You pretty much hit all of the reasons why I refuse to set foot into the downtown TO area. And this is coming from a retired TTC employee who was required to drive around all transit serviced areas of the city for 38 years! I am thankful that I retired 13 years ago and was able to regain what...

The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

When I heard some of the details about these two I thought it was just a matter of time before someone would try to kill the people responsible for screwing over their clients. The first new report noted that there were previous fraud charges and from the looks of it those charged were not...

    Total bike write off

If the bike is "written off" doesn't that mean that it would be branded as "salvaged" and can no longer be plated in Ontario? I'm not sure be that would seem to be the case.

    Friendly Reminder to Wear ATGATT

Yesterday while driving around Orangeville I saw a guy riding a very nice Harley bagger and noticed he seemed to be missing something. No jacket, gloves, or helmet. No headgear of any kind. I must admit it took me back for a second or two and I was surprised to see someone blatantly out there...

    2024 Day Trips

I commuted from Orangeville to TO for over 25 years and often used my bike. When I retired, (about 13 years ago), the traffic on the 427/409/401 was already getting bad. There is no way in hell I would even consider your commute at this point in time. I hope you don't have too many years left...

    2024 Day Trips

I've actually used that route about five times so far this season on my way to work at the golf course. I only work two days a week and if there's no rain in the forecast I'll ride to work and take that route, or a slight variation of it.
