I recall reading somewhere the Road Watch program in Caledon was discontinued. Is it still in effect?

    Electric Lawn Mower?

When we lived at a townhouse with a single driveway just long enough for one car, I bought a corded electric snow thrower and found it worked great. That little unit could shoot the snow across the roadway and saved my back. After we moved to a detached home a couple of years ago I went looking...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

We had problems like this at our last house with package deliveries by CPC. It seemed like if there were more packages than space for them in the superbox, the carrier either didn't bring them on the route, or pre-selected the ones that would be put in the superbox. The rest had the cards filled...

What did you do in your garage today..?

There's was plenty of snow on the ground from Orangeville north back on December 13th when I went up to Blue. I've been out once more and will be going again tomorrow with my son and grandson. Sorry it took so long to respond. I haven't been able to get onto the site since the server change. I...

    Motorcycle Memes....

I've done that! Back when I was working in the Yonge / Sheppard area I occasionally found myself in Collingwood on my way home to Orangeville.

    Canada Post - Huge losses

I believe $31/hour is very good money to deliver the mail. I also do not believe delivering mail is as physically demanding as working in construction, or on an assembly line where the work is non-stop and you are under the watchful eye of your employer every minute of the day. I agree that the...

What did you do in your garage today..?

Official start of winter for me as I put the ski box on the roof of the car. The skis go into it today and I'm going skiing tomorrow!

At what age did you start riding?

It was a natural progression for me from a bicycle to a motorcycle. At 14 I acquired an old 50cc Honda step-through that didn't run. I tinkered with it enough that I was able to get it running. My friends and I took turns riding around the island in the centre of Cabot Court in Etobicoke until...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

They were good on the icy patches at the stop signs here in town. The ABS didn't trigger when stopping and I didn't notice any wheel spin on acceleration. Granted, with AWD I don't usually feel any wheel spin, the car just goes when you hit the gas. I can't wait to test them on a snow covered...

I have one on my side yard. It's fine. Nice and close to get the mail.

I always clear the snow off the tail lights, but for some reason completely forget about the licence plate.

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

I've always changed over to snow tires in mid-October and leave them on until the end of April. We have had snow on the ground before Halloween and into April up here in Orangeville so it's best to be prepared. This year I tried something new. I bought new All-Weather tires to replace the...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

At least CP would have a plan going forward and be able to justify a government bailout to the taxpayers. Maybe they should defund the CBC to cover the initial cost to change everyone over to super boxes. I don't know about elsewhere, but here in Orangeville the vast majority of carriers use...

    Canada Post - Huge losses

The pension is the most important benefit that CP employees seem to have overlooked. I commented on this several pages back. That pension is a large part of the compensation package that the employer is obligated to pay into. In most cases they match the employee contribution dollar for dollar...

Think very carefully about that choice. Does UPS offer a Defined Benefit Pension? If not stay where you are; you will thank me in 25 years. A DB pension has become a white elephant and is just a dream for the vast majority of Canadians. I have several friends and relatives who are retired CP...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

That happened to me a few years ago. It immediately sank out of sight and it's still in there somewhere, that is if it hasn't completely disintegrated by now.

I've tried that same manoeuvre on First Street. Signal my move into new right/through lane, turn off signal right away, then turn it on again immediately after the mall entrance. It only works if there is no one waiting to exit the mall. This action also can cause a conflict with those waiting...

What did you do in your garage today..?

Well I parked the bike in its corner and placed the snowblower at the door in the hopes that snow will be arriving this year. I also found a use for those two plastic bins that have been sitting empty in the basement for two years after our move to this house. Saw this idea online and decided to...

The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

I will still wait until after I pass the last driveway to turn on my signal, in order to avoid any confusion as to whether I am turning or not. There is a mall entrance/exit here in Orangeville on First Street just north of Hansen that causes this same issue. The entrance is located immediately...

    More trouble in snowmobile land

When we lived in Dryden we had a Polaris single that took three of us to get started. Me on the handle and two friends pulling on the rope. That thing was slow but could pull a toboggan with a load of kids on it all day.
