    Cylinder Base Condition

Sounds good. Canadian Tire has JB Weld, so I think I'll pick some of that up. Is there any specific variant that is best for high temperature applications? I have brand new metal gaskets and I was able to find some Hylomar Universal Blue, so I'll use a bit of that as well. Thanks for the info!

    Cylinder Base Condition

After the first year of having the bike, I used Engine Ice coolant, which was recommended by a bunch of people with the same engine. I'm not sure if it was the wrong stuff to use, but this is what it is from the manufacturer's website: I took my heads to a machine shop last year to have the...

    Cylinder Base Condition

Just getting around to working on this thing after a two-year delay after returning to school. Taking a closer look and wondering about the condition of the base near this coolant gallery (or whatever it's called). I have new steel gaskets, however, I am wondering if I need some additional...

    Valve Job (cleaning and lapping)

Makes sense. But I think it's on a spectrum. I guess the relative hardness of the material determines the percentage of wear that one has on the other. But both, to some degree, must have an affect on the other. But I'm really just talking out of my ass.

    Valve Job (cleaning and lapping)

I'm guessing, technically, almost anything can remove metal. I'm sure even a wire wheel removes some metal. But, without having the proper experience, it's hard to know what the acceptable level of removal is. I've been told that medium Scotch-Brite pad is more abrasive than a wire wheel. I...

    Valve Job (cleaning and lapping)

I've been told not to use anything too abrasive. I don't have a bench grinder, but I do have some brash wire bushes that I can put in a Dremel. In most YouTube videos, they were either using a wire wheel on a bench grinder or Scotch-Brite, which is what I have been using. I'm not really sure...

    Valve Job (cleaning and lapping)

I'm probably going to do that. Budget is somewhat limited. I went back to school last September and I don't finish until next April, and rent ain't cheap these days, but this is the year that I finally have time to get this done, so, if I need to spend more money I will somehow have to. I've...

    Valve Job (cleaning and lapping)

Here are one of the head's exhaust ports and seats. They're pretty gunked-up, but the seats look OK to me, although I don't exactly have a trained eye.

    Valve Job (cleaning and lapping)

The valve just above is the same as the valve in the image in my first post. I guess there was just a lot of carbon built up on it. I was getting some leakage when I tested it. Should I take that valve and have it and the seats cut, or just replace the valve and have the seat but to the new one...

    Valve Job (cleaning and lapping)

I am using some Scotch-Brite hand pads to clean them. I also bought some brass wire brushes, but will probably use those to clean the ports on the head. Here is what the valve looked like before using the Scotch-Brite, and just after scraping some of the bigger carbon deposits from the fillet...

    Valve Job (cleaning and lapping)

In 2018 I was on a what was supposed to be a 6-week trip through the USA, into Mexico and back to Canada. I made it just outside of New Orleans when I noticed that the bike was running at 5 of 7 bars on the temperature scale, at highway speeds and moderate ambient temperatures. It's usually 4...

Yeah, that's what I was told on another motorcycle forum. But I always like to get multiple opinions, especially when I don't really know what I am doing.

    Valve Job (cleaning and lapping)

I bough some Prussian Blue and some lapping compound. I am going to do the lapping and measure that the seats and seating faces are within spec, and test for leaks. If I do buy new valves, I was told to take them to a machine shop with the heads and have the surfaces cut properly. Is lapping...

    Rolling Chassis In Apartment

My lease expired after the first year, after which time I went month-to-month based on the terms and conditions of my expired contract and subject to any rent increases in accordance with the Residential and Tenancies Act. Here is the email I sent to my landlord shortly after receiving a...

    Valve Job (cleaning and lapping)

I've had my engine apart for the past year and a half, and I finally have the next few months to try to get everything done. I've had a possible head gasket leak, so I ordered a bunch of new parts, gaskets included, and am currently working on cleaning the valves. I soaked my first (exhaust)...

    Rolling Chassis In Apartment

Here is a form N7. Reason 3 is probably the closest that my landlord might get for a reason to evict me. It must be shown that storage of these parts have caused or can be expected to cause serious damage. I don't think this reasonably can be done.

    Rolling Chassis In Apartment

I didn't mention the engine because I fail to see how it is relevant. My landlord didn't even see the engine. Her issue was with the chassis. The engine is a hunk of cast iron and aluminum. Do the internals have traces of oil? Probably, but I have gallon jugs of cooking oil in my cupboard...
