The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

Agree and disagree with some points. I buy because I like it, the complexity, details and mechanical beauty + finishing appeals to me. I do not care about the story or what it shows to others. Sure I will match watches to my outfit and event. Yes, I will enjoy compliments. But at the end of the...

The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

maybe I'm the minority but I also look at watches based on value/future pricing. Learned this the hard way from my wife regarding luxury goods (purses). All of my 'real' watches I've picked because I like the look and functions but also because of the price I got it for. I can sell all of them...

buy from someone private and you'll never pay taxes. FYI almost all of the reputable used watch sellers on forums and social media will not charge you taxes.

The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

there's quite a few places for watches depending on your level of trust and risk: reddit, facebook groups, canwatchco forums, and there's a few reputable consignment used dealers on instagram as well. stay away from watchfinder canada, their prices are inflated. edit: forgot to mention...

The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

never thought about this. but that would actually make great sense with having a smartwatch. no need to choose between mechanical vs tech and also not draw looks with a watch on each wrist. any examples or recommendations to look at?

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

did you catch your charging rate? I just tried the same Ivy station on the way back from London on Thursday but dummy me forgot to condition the battery. Max charge while I was grabbing some takeout was only 40kw. Big difference from my usual 100-150 but thats with battery conditioning.

The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

Nice, love SKXs and even the new sport 5s. My first 'real watch' was one I ended up modifying that was stolen with our belongings in Greece. The aftermarket for them have gotten more insane since then, just took a look recently thinking about getting one again and there's now custom cases for...

nananana-Batman. got lucky this year and scored this new at MSRP from a dealer because of contacts. couldn't be more to the point. if I didn't get offered the amazing deal, Rolex would not be under my couch. I can't wear it to work due to the status and there's tons of better (imo) watches for...

The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

Was asked in the other thread about Panerai's business practices. Here's the top 3 articles about it but a quick summary: -they were promoting social media posts of people wearing fake panerai's, when they were told about this, they tried to get the people who reported it banned and continued to...

    COVID and the housing market

Nice. Nothing else like them. Love the looks of the luminor but will never buy a Panerai due to their business practices and value for price.

    Interesting statistic

Maybe I missed it but I'd also add that there are probably more jap bikes than euro (not 95%). Less average mileage on euro bikes as well especially since there aren't really any euro starter bikes here. Just take a look at kijiji ads and compare ducatis vs. same vintage japanese equivalent...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Not sure how their price breakdown works. But you are right, I highly doubt they would accommodate anything other than a straight trade-in. I do have to say, their lack of stealerships made it the best new car buying experience I've ever had. Buy online, bring your papers, inspect car, sign...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

all online. you take a few pics and they get back to you with an offer. trade-ins only last 30days. Just bring car and ownership when you take delivery. I haven't actually traded in yet so I'm not sure how the handover works (how stringent inspection is, haggling, etc.) from what I've seen...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Teslas capacity and inventory are higher than demand (which is why the price cuts). They overestimated the demand and market. You can actually buy without ordering at this point. Every other EV not the case. Last I checked, most are still backordered at least a year ahead (EV6, MachE, etc)...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

pretty much. right back to square 1 pricing. my guess is that all cars are going to be heading in that direction as we've seen with everything else (ie: houses, luxury goods, crypto, etc). Tesla is just more noticeable as one of the firsts because of their lack of dealers, high margins and supply.

and had that been your average firearms shooter with no criminal record? probably throw the book at them.
