Listing bikes you've owned in your posts. ??.

You list the bikes you've owned as they are more personal, more intimate, than things that are more utilitarian such as cars. Probably why some won't sell their older bikes and often just keep them in their garage but don't insure or ride them. While I like my car, I love my bike.

Toronto dealer matches Pete's/Fortnine on tires

Daytona installs, but I go to Rosey Toes (Ted) against my better judgement. Time before Ted let off so much internal gas you could play music to it, this time he rolled my old tires toward me, hitting me in the back of my legs and I almost fell. What's with this guy? And more importantly, why do...

Looking at bikes, getting back into riding again

Not sure if you are considering new bikes, but if you are concerned about avoiding the purchase on the last year of a current design (change to a new design in the year after you buy). If so then consider, the VStrom 1000 has a major refresh/redesign for 2020. Suzuki tends to leave the VStrom...

This is How You Pass A Motorcycle Licence Test In California

It's even crazier than that. In California you can be an illegal immigrant fresh off the northward hike across the border and go to a licensing office and with no proof of citizenship, residence or birth certificate demand to take a test and if passed, get a license issued in whatever name you...

    U.S. Driver's Licence

My neighbour lady drives a van with New Jersey plates for the last 6 years. Her exhusband lives there and may have given it to her. Have no idea how this will pan out if she is in a serious accident. A claim that she is a visitor? I think not. I know NJ insurance rates are about half of Ontario...

    Upcoming San Fransisco Trip

Travelling south on PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) also called US1, means you are on the side of the highway with unrestricted ocean view. If you travel north your view will be blocked by traffic. You may not think it a big deal, but it is. I travelled south to Mexico from SF and the views were...

    Hauling Motorcycles

Forget a pickup. Get a van. I hauled various bikes for years, all except for the really tall bikes, like 1200GS or Multistrada, in an Astro mini-van (not the extended body, but the short body). The van had tonnes of room, was dry, and mostly was secure for overnight (no one could see what was...

    Any shippers here?

Perhaps it would be cheaper to just go there and pick it up, then place it in your carry-on luggage. Some enterprising VW engineers did just that in Europe with their new 1 litre engine, just threw it in a duffle bag and placed it in the overhead compartment. Just make sure it's an aluminum...

Adventures of crashing in Vietnam, breaking my leg

If it's a mistaken attitude, and not a reflection of reality, then I apologize. Each to his own, go if you love this kind of adventure, I promise not to judge you.

No more searching for pink slips

In the last couple of years or so, the MTO, Service Ontario and the police have insurance information that is electronic and shared by the insurance industry. But if you get pulled over and the cop asks for proof of insurance (the pink slip or your phone pic) and you don't produce it, you are...

Adventures of crashing in Vietnam, breaking my leg

I like to read motorcycle adventure stories like this and there are a ton of them on advrider. You read of crazy traffic, no rules, anything goes in congested over-populated cities like in India and other Asian countries. Sometimes the stories hang and there are no further posts and you know the...

    Ford government proposing photo radar

Every time a new obsticle is placed before the public, the public will find a way around it. Time to get a heavily smoke tinted license plate cover. The fine for that is less than speeding. I once drove for 15 years with no front plate (didn't like the look) until I was finally tagged. Went to...

    Aug 13 & 14 bopping around

Most if not all these abandoned rail beds have extensive signage that motorcycles are prohibited. I know cause there is one near my cottage and have ridden the rail bed with people/hikers/bicyclists yelling at me. Oddly ATV and snowmobiles are allowed. Give thanks to those who ride 2 stroke dirt...

Bike keys left in the bike

If in the ignition, leave it there, if in the seat/trunk lock, put it in the ignition. Hardly anyone can drive a manual, let alone know where the clutch and brake are on a motorcycle. A thief will also not have a helmet and stick out for police.

Tory takes aim at noisy motorcycles

Ya, that's my neighbour when he drifts into his driveway, clutch engaged, giving his gas-guzzling hog a few loud blips before he shuts it down (or stalls?). "Who me? I don't want any attention."

Tory takes aim at noisy motorcycles

And your point is...? Not sure how emergency vehicles needing to clear a lane as they rush in a life and death situation is any kind of logical comparison.

Tory takes aim at noisy motorcycles

Agree. Modifying a bike's exhaust to awaken the dead makes as much sense, and has as much consideration, as driving with your car horn permanently on. Who does that?

Tory takes aim at noisy motorcycles

.... so let's try to drag this discussion back to excessive noise. Check out what the UK is doing. What a great idea Loud pipes could receive an automatic fine from the UK's "noise cameras"

Safety first! Helmets should be compulsory for everyone. Accidents do not happen on the basis of religion.

For sure. There are many other countries in so much social and economic decay where honest effective policing is virtually impossible. So police stop being police and become judge, jury and executioner. As much as there can always be improvement, we've got to be thankful here.

Safety first! Helmets should be compulsory for everyone. Accidents do not happen on the basis of religion.

My understanding is they make close to or over $100K for the average cop. The figures you quote are for lots of over-time and senior positions. It's a tough job and is one reason why RCMP and OPP officer suicide rates are at an all-time high. What's the use in making money while slowly going...
