I think the reason you can’t run studded tires in Ontario is because they’re just too hard on the asphalt. Imagine every car on the 401 with studded tires, there would be nothing left of it after a few winters. Not to say that dumping mega tons of salt on it is much better.

I don’t think you can beat Costco for tires if you’re a member. I put a set of Michelin Cross Climates on my step daughters Corolla and she’s been very happy with them. I always try to stick with Michelin, they’re a little more money but generally worth it.
