    Suzuki Oil vs Rotella T6

You can still 'sort of' prime the engine with oil. Start the car and wait 30 seconds to a minute before driving away. Engines have an oil pump, so it doesn't take long to coat the surfaces.

    Police Riding and shooting chase

Nice that he seemed to aim at the tire and not the driver. That's a lot of speed on that road surface. I noticed clutch pulled in and rear brake to slow for a turn when hand was off the throttle. Amazing skill.

    Suzuki Oil vs Rotella T6

I've also decided to use 5W instead of 10W, thanks to riding around spring and fall when temperatures are closer to 0 deg C. My car takes 0W-20. As long as it's synthetic, 5W-40 and 10W-40 should behave the same at operating temperature (hot) for the duration between oil changes. The worst of...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2019 Edition)

We had a group ride in Milton on Monday. Seven riders on a ~1 hour loop through some very entertaining roads. We might not get above 10 degrees for the rest of the year, which basically means I won't be sweaty. Great weather!

    Left Turners

Hey!!! They mention the book "Traffic", which I just recommended in the "Whatcha readin'" thread. I read the book in my teens and it has had a perpetuating positive influence on my driving and riding!

At what point is it not a hobby anymore?

Definitely a concern/worry. So far I have been using the mall. The part of the lot near the old Sears is also deserted, so we aren't getting in the way much. Gymkhana is actually a lot like practice drills. Enough G1 drivers training there, and since we don't do wheelies or burnouts, the...

    23 M1 S1000RR $12000/yr

A 600cc and M2 is like driving a Corvette while you have the equivalent of a G1. On a 1000cc, bluntly, you might not be riding for long. Maybe it scares you away from riding. Maybe you drop it on the driveway at 0km/h and $10K+ repairs makes you give up riding. Maybe you die... So in the...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2019 Edition)

Same here. With a couple of sweaters on underneath, this is way more comfortable temperature as well.

At what point is it not a hobby anymore?

Sliders and cages definitely help to protect the mechanics and aesthetics of your bike. Unlike regular conservative street riding, motogymkhana is a sport and encourages you to push your limits. So, just as in circuit riding, you are more likely to lay it down than on your commute. However, at...

    Left Turners

Agreed. The driver may be legally 100% at fault. But, in many cases, it is realistically rarely a 1-sided event. And even if it was, it is often avoidable, as you can mitigate risks such that another driver's mistakes don't cost you. Treat other drivers like weird moving obstacles, that are...

New Distracted Driving Laws Jan 1 2019?

I would 100% agree that it is mental, but it's hard to enforce "X% of attention or less was paid to the road". I see some people on their hands-free phone, arguing and talking with their hands, wandering out of their lane. On the flip side, I fall silent on the phone, tuning out of the...

Check out Ontario Moto Gymkhana. Facebook: Ontario Moto Gymkhana Website: Ontario Moto Gymkhana Any bike can do it, from trials to cruisers. It's like Rider Training courses on steroids. It's so much fun, very safe, and builds up the skills that can save you on the street!

    What are you reading?

I recommend "Traffic: Why We Drive the Way We Do (and What It Says About Us)" by Tom Vanderbilt. A look at the subconscious mental processes and conscious rationale behind everything from merging early to feeling out a safe speed. Stories about motorcycles are sprinkled in, though this is...

That is an ideal starter bike, one of many. It was my favourite at Rider Training.

At what point is it not a hobby anymore?

People in your situation sell their bikes and give up riding because they don't get to ride. They don't have several hours a week to go out and "play with their friends" on bikes. This is adulthood I suppose. But I disagree with them. I commute all the time, and take the long way home a...
