    COVID and the housing market

Hard to say what is worse. At least the highway for the most part is consistent noise, and you should get used to it. Airport is like once every X mins it's loud. The first place I looked at was near the Oshawa airport, and I was not looking forward to living near that haha

    COVID and the housing market

Thanks! It was 500ft off the highway so you couldn't see it, but nothing but a few trees between you and it. It was 31 Robert Street W in Newcastle if you look that up. While I didn't mind it, the noise from the highway was like a constant pressure. It was odd, but inside it was fine.

    COVID and the housing market

People says puppies are a lot of work and I knew they would be a lot but just kind of assumed people were lazy and it wouldn't be to bad. It's been 5 weeks so far with someone right beside her all the time or she will eat everything. Carpet, blinds, the fabric on the bottom of chairs, shoes...

    COVID and the housing market

Thanks! Actually ended up in the East end of Oshawa. I'm from Courtice and wanted there but couldn't afford it. I was looking anywhere from Oshawa to Newcastle. While I lived in Oshawa on Gladstone Ave. for the first few years of my life, I was pretty hesitant to buy in Oshawa especially in the...

    COVID and the housing market

Lol will do. I don't get it until May so a long wait. I've got some immediate Reno's to do - like the plumbing, a fence for the new puppy (part of the reason I've been off the forum for a while), and paint. Won't be actually moving in until mid summer. I've got it pretty sweet at the parents...

    COVID and the housing market

They had a quote from a plumbing company, including replacing all the taps and running PEX, $5k. Still not sure on why taps need to be replaced so I'll have to look into that

    COVID and the housing market

Even the place I bought, I removed all conditions for financing/home inspection, but had a condition to find insurance within 5 days of my offer being accepted (re: Kitec). They were like no conditions. I talked to my broker and he said his house had Kitec plumbing and not to worry, so I removed it.

    COVID and the housing market

I'm going to rip it out immediately. The house is surprisingly well laid out to make the replacement easy. Water heater / laundry is in the basement right below the kitchen, with no ceiling. in the room next door on both floors is the bathrooms. May need to do a bit of drywall work but nothing...

    COVID and the housing market

What I've learned though is if you put any conditions on your offer, there is almost no chance they will accept it in this market. Oh another house I tried to go look at but didn't had 13 people living in a 1400 sq-ft house lol

    COVID and the housing market

So I bought a house last week. Its been a wild ride. This market is crazy. Getting hotter every day. Here was my journey of looking at houses under $750k in Durham Region: #1 - Open house near my parents place, probably 20 other families there in the 15mins I was there. Sold well above asking...

Tim Hortons in Oshawa on Simcoe St. S - drive thru only

The only reason I knew this Tim Hortons existed is that I've been told if you go there late you can pick up a prostitute in the parking lot. (Un)fortunately I haven't verified these claims myself however.

    COVID and the housing market

So the response I got back from the broker was: "So I spoke with First National and they indicated that you will be charged a penalty when your house closes for breaking the mortgage contract. If you buy and it closes within 60 days, you would “port” the rate/term and be refunded the penalty."...

    COVID and the housing market

Yeah I don't really get it either. My cousin is saying he's seen up to 6 months to port your mortgage to a new one, but I don't get how the mortgage comapny gets paid if you stop paying? I wonder if you put your mortgage amount in like a separate trust account or something. I sent an email to my...

    COVID and the housing market

I've been missing off the forum for the last 3 months - a lot going on personally but everything is back to a new normal now. I sold my condo town house this month. I was thinking it was worth somewhere around $500-530k, which was based on a sale next door mid last year for $585k and the brand...

What did you do in your garage today..?

The grey Vessel is JIS. Though unless I know for certain that a screw is JIS, I never use it.

What did you do in your garage today..?

Yeah the modularity is what sold me on it. Like 10 years ago when Kiazen foam was starting to get popular I did my whole tool box in that, but then I bought more tools and ended up throwing most of it away. This is also a 20 year old toolbox. I think the new snap on boxes (or at least the...
