I went up there the first time for about 15mins without a dust mask but came down coughing, so I wear an N95 dust mask, especially since I can't confirm any of the different layers of insulation is asbestos or not.
I will try a fan next time
All I know is that it's hot as f*ck up in my attic when the sun is out. Yesterday I could do max about 3mins up there if I was moving around, 5-10 if I was sitting in one spot. Must have been 40-50 degC up there. The aluminum ladder was hot to touch going up/down. Poked my head up there this...
Looks great! I want to turn my attic into yours at some point. Mine appears to be near the same size.
There is a lot of steps before I'd be able to get there though - I don't even know where I'd start. I'd want to add a dormer so I can have a window up there, so I'd want to do the roof at the...
Update: Ok so I think what has been done is when the panel and a lot of the wiring was swapped out on the house, they left the old wiring in the walls/attic, but everything in the basement was swapped. So these receptacles have 3ft of old 1948 wiring, into a junction box in the basement ceiling...
I have one of those $10 ethernet cable testers for when I make my own cables, you could use one of those to find out which line goes where if you have access to both ends
Thanks for the offer - I'm in Oshawa so not a short drive for you hahaha
Yeah they are just regular plugs with no ground wire. I haven't seen any bootleg grounds yet, and as far as I know there is not a GFCI in the circuit, but could be wrong. I do want to look and see if anyone over the year...
Basement ceiling is all drywall :( I'm not against cutting into it, its just finding the time to do it...
Yeah I'm looking into retrofit boxes now. That's probably the route I will go.
Hmm didn't know that about the longer screws. Will look into the box extensions. Thanks!
Agreed on the...
Ugh another interesting annoyance at the new house. The panel was changed ~20years ago and the house was re-wired with regular 14/2 romex, however I have just now noticed that they left 3 runs of this old wiring. 2 runs have no labels and no ground wire, and the other is labelled Philex. Of...
Like GG said, home runs. The Kitec installed currently has two manifolds with 8 runs a piece. I don't imagine it was cheap when it was installed.
I like your idea of sending a 3/4" out to a manifold in each bathroom/kitchen, but I've already bought all the stuff to just replace the Kitec as is.
True. I don't even know what a 22*24' insulated and heated shop is worth nowadays. I figured if it burns down the foundation would still be good and $49k would rebuild the walls and roof haha
Yeah that's fair.
Insurance seemed to be far more concerned about the detached garage and if it was worth more than $50k. I was like it probably is, but let's call it $49k to be safe lol
There is a second shut off just downstream of the meter, which appears like it was added on ~20 years ago when the Kitec was added. Not sure if it works or if I'll have to replace it because the fitting is wrong
I was worried about insurance but when I called TD to set it up they didn't even ask. I'm guessing by the age of the home they just assumed everything was copper. I'm gonna change it out anyways cause I don't want to worry about it.
Luckily this is only a bungalow so should be pretty easy to...
I've mention before that my soon-to-be new house has Kitec plumbing, and I'm planning on replacing it before moving in. This is the cold water header that will go in the utility room, and there is an identical hot water header. Also the black piece is a wall mount that I've designed and am 3D...
Last Friday was the closing date for my Port Elgin condo. Went surprisingly smooth! I was worried about my bank holding the money for weeks like they always do with checks, but by 1pm I had all the money in my account. My bank account is looking mighty healthy - (un?)fortunately will only last 3...
