I haven't been riding. Flew to Calgary for Christmas at my Daughter's. Decided to leave my bike at the dealership here while I was away. Routine maint and tracking down an annoying issue. Bike is still there waiting for some parts but I should have it back this upcoming week (weather...
Sadly I caught Bronchitis at work a few weeks ago and until I get ahead of it I won't ride because of possibly stressing my lungs.
Hopefully back to riding soon.

Still riding , pretty much every day except for when we had snow here in Port Perry.
I'm at 53,045 km as of my fill this eve. Behind last year (2022 when) I ended up at 61,086 km for the year.

I'd like to but can't see that I could until after I come back from my daughter's wedding in Calgary. Maybe mid or towards the end of September if you guys are still at it.

It's not always about compression ratio. Cylinder filling and cylinder temperatures can make a big difference. The 2014+DL1000 was tuned for more torque at lower revs so has a greater need for higher octane. The
DL650's are tuned for more midrange and up torque.
Btw my DL1050 is tuned more...
First gen DL1000's ran on regular. 2014+DL1000 want 90+.
In Newfoundland and Labrador only 87 octane was available in a lot of places. On my 2015 DL1000 it ran fine on regular but I made effort to avoid using higher throttle settings at lower revs so as to avoid detonation.

Yeah busy working and riding.
In May was in West Virginia for a meetup. Two weeks later in North Carolina for a meetup. Was somewhere on the Canada Day long weekend. (Camping with a friend I think that weekend.). Civic weekend in New York State for an extended (pretended?) Meet up and right now...
Nice day for a ride today! I went up to Bancroft and did a little 430 km loop.
I was thinking of going up 507 but at Bobcaygeon it was obvious that the rain we got in the GTA was snow up there. Most roads were fine but there was anywhere from two to four inches of slushy snow on the roadside...
You pretty much have to expect ice to occur in days like this. Snow melts and the melt goes on the road. It freezes overnight and makes the ice.
You certainly have to pay attention to the roads and where the snow will melt and what parts of the roads will stay in shade and may stay icy.
If...
I rode in to work today. -6⁰c when I left home. Roads from Port Perry to Vaughan were fine. Any icy spots were visible far in advance it you aren't tailgating.
Not doe everyone but I enjoyed the ride and am looking forward to my ride home.

I couldn't ride Sunday as I was picking up my daughter at the airport and spending a bit of time with her. Today's weather radar on the apps said afternoon snow but none appeared so I went for alittle ride today. Not much, maybe about 150 km but it was nice to get out since my last riding was...
Mine never have on my V-Stroms, at least down to about -25⁰c on a 20 minute ride back from the dealership with the bike having been outside overnight.

Always nice when we can rationalize something we are going to do anyway! :)
I saw another bike today. A large cruiser (I think a Harley) heading north on HWY 45 north of Cobourg/
I'm now at about 2,500 km this year so far. Any riding this time of year is a bonus!

Used to be -18⁰c was the lowest I would ride but as I get older it probably a bit higher, maybe closer to -10.
But temperature isn't really my major concern. It's ice and snow on the road (or the risk of it) that is the main deciding factor for me.
