Motorcycle mechanic apprenticeship for a middle-aged guy?

@Jayv Well yeah. ICE should be nearly extinct and/or outlawed by the time I retire.

Motorcycle mechanic apprenticeship for a middle-aged guy?

No illusion there. I'm fine with that. I just want a relatively future-proof job I'll enjoy. Fixing moving things is probably never going out of fashion. I get that moto is low-end and seasonal and that there are a ton of "better" options. I still think I can carve myself a little niche there...

Motorcycle mechanic apprenticeship for a middle-aged guy?

Cheers man! Glad to hear you found something good after going through what sounds like a very similar awakening/existential crisis. I have no doubt that the beginning is not going to be glamourous at all. And I know I'm going to raise some eyebrows coming from a white collar background, although...

Motorcycle mechanic apprenticeship for a middle-aged guy?

Someone didn't choose Literature as his major. 🤝

Motorcycle mechanic apprenticeship for a middle-aged guy?

I get that. I was a bit wary about starting the guitar biz in 2017 for the same reason. There are definitely cons, and I sometimes get tired of hearing/playing the same test riffs over and over, but then I remind myself that I'm paying the bills by doing something I used to do for free in my...

Motorcycle mechanic apprenticeship for a middle-aged guy?

Thanks. I really want to try the moto thing first. I know it might not work out long term, but that's the plan for now.

Motorcycle mechanic apprenticeship for a middle-aged guy?

Thanks, I saw that. Would love to work for GP, just not sure Etobicoke<>Whitby is a viable commute.

Motorcycle mechanic apprenticeship for a middle-aged guy?

Which shops would that be? I'm going to start making the rounds soon.

Motorcycle mechanic apprenticeship for a middle-aged guy?

Thanks. I actually have a lot of tools in part because of the electric guitar biz. I just talked to my dad and he seems to think I won't need much more to work in an average shop. I would probably end up specializing in electrical gremlins because of my background, and I'm quite well covered...

Motorcycle mechanic apprenticeship for a middle-aged guy?

Literature major. I did consider it, but no one cares about the missing 9 credits at my age, and I'm pretty set on reorienting towards a skilled trade too. I really don't want to go back to a desk job. But yes, sometimes it still nags at me. Just a dozen essays short of a piece of paper in a...

Motorcycle mechanic apprenticeship for a middle-aged guy?

[This might run long - skip to the next paragraph if you don't care about the full context.] So I find myself at a bit of a crossroads career-wise. I'm 43 and went to university but did not graduate (9 credits short of a BA). I've had a series of desk jobs since 2001, culminating in a low-level...

    TV shows currently watching

The Tinder Swindler - Guy with zero personality builds himself a fake life as the heir to a diamond empire and he somehow convinces chicks he's not a scammer. Spoiler alert: he is a scammer. On the surface, he doesn't even appear to be that good at it. But then, that Norwegian chick is...

    Running.. ugghh

I'm sure Peloton is fine, but you can get the exact same results with your own bike and a TrainerRoad subscription. TR's adaptive training is genius: https://road.cc/content/tech-news/trainerroad-rolls-out-adaptive-training-after-beta-success-287713 I guess it depends what your goal is. I'm...

    Running.. ugghh

Yeah sorry, I meant "rigid" trainer (as opposed to the Kinetic stuff that rocks), not stationary. I use a road bike in an old Minoura rim-drive trainer, which I do prefer over the more common tire-driven dumb trainers. The main downside is that the max power/resistance is quite low compared to...

    Running.. ugghh

2 hours on a stationary trainer is butt torture, and I've tried everything from a carbon saddle with no padding at all to a super soft and plush cruiser saddle. They all suck past the 90-min mark in my experience. I've actually chosen a lower-volume training plan in TrainerRoad just to avoid the...

    Running.. ugghh

Been doing run/walk intervals for 4 weeks now. I'm up to two 7-minute intervals (the rest of the 30-35 minutes being a fast walk) and today was the first time I didn't wake up with tender shinbones the day after a run. Still a ways to go before I can run a continuous 5k but I'll take the W. 🥳

So much this. Delivery and demeanor count for more than content and actual ability for so many people.
