The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

Don't hate me because I am beautiful, but my wife bought me this today. Keeping me in the lifestyle I am accustomed to, but no where near as baller as others here. Just a phone pic.. Now I can measure the distance to enemy artillery with a watch (Telemetre), a practical hole in the collection...

    2024 Paris Olympics

One of the problems is there are far too many sports. Some have been around for a long time, others are new to the Olympics as they attempt to draw in viewers. Then there are others with ageism, etc. Take swimming for a classic one that has been around for a long time. While swimmers will...

    Wasps

I was doing some demo in our basement a few years ago and pulled down some ceiling to find a wasp nest that had filled the space between the joists, I ran for my life and closed the door behind me... Once my nerves settled I went back and took a peak (a good while later) and thankfully the nest...

    Wasps

Many wasp nests die off in the fall, maybe all? The queen leaves the nest and finds a spot to winter, the rest of the wasps technically starve to death without the queen (this is why they get "aggressive" for sugar/food in September and early October). In the spring the queen emerges and starts...

    This is gross

The bathrooms in the building my office is in were getting a little gross for a while (shared between multiple companies). One day I printed out a big number "2" on a piece of paper, I put it on the bathroom floor in the corner. I then proceeded to tell the building manager that someone left a...

    This is gross

The sad part is that a lot of what people dump like this (mattresses. furniture, etc.) could have just been put at the curb on the correct day and the Region/City will collect it for free. Construction stuff you need to take it to the transfer station, the costs are not that bad. They know me...

    Recaro nooooo.

I am not sure about Cloverdale but some of these mall redevelopments happen in phases and the businesses move to clear up one half/section, they build and then the businesses move in that new section. Not always feasible due to potential leasehold improvements, costs, etc. that may be required...

    New helicopters

They could probably get a good deal on some Sea Kings from the RCAF... darn, six years too late for that.

    911 responder question

No doubt there are areas where this is likely a problem. There are roads that were two lanes in each direction in the city that have centre islands/medians down the middle of the road, the city installed king sized bike lanes with physical barriers and dropped the road to one lane in each...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

They can likely work out how to do it with the Tesla, meet halfway at a charge point, lots of options. But at the same time, for these one off corner cases, they can always rent a small ICE car. Or just ship the item overnight.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Any recommendations for window guys in Etobicoke? Normally I would just do them myself but the list of projects is just too long. I have three that I want to replace.

    MTO DriveON Safety Inspection Updates

Once it is actually working it is a good start to improve the current situation. I reality the bad actors will find ways to defeat it, maybe not right away but they will. It is an arm's race and as we go forward holes need to be plugged as they come up. Hopefully the people running the program...

The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

Well.... if she blacked out while driving her license should be suspended until the medical condition is resolved and she is cleared by medical professionals. Should it not, what happens next if this is on the 401? If this was any of us, the outcome would be different on many levels. Political...

    Anyone here a cyclist?

It wasn't even that one, a PW-5 or whatever was the equivalent back then.

    COVID and the housing market

Yes MPAC is the 2016 assessed value BUT if there were permitted renos the number may be a bit higher based on more sq.ft or more bathrooms in the formula, etc.. In general all my research says MPAC is cruising around 40% to 60% of current market values for unrenovated (since 2016) homes. Maybe...

    Anyone here a cyclist?

For the majority of people, tire levers (or even a bead jack if the tire rim combo is difficult or hands are old), patch kit and a good set of allen keys covers most of what you will be doing. Maybe a good set of those for home use and some in a bike tool for on the road repairs. Next is cable...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

If you are looking for something non-toxic diatomaceous earth has worked OK for me in the yard but it is not instant and you need to know where the nest is. You cover and around their entrance/nest and you reapply after rain etc. You can buy in bulk at garden centres instead of smaller name...

Punishment for riding after temp sticker is expired

As others noted, expired plate might as well be no plate. Expect no insurance ticket as my guess that also does not exist. Unless the cop takes pity on you (sorry sir I forgot the expiry date--assuming it is just a couple of days) I would expect total fines in or around the mid four figures...
