    2025 Yamaha YZF-R1 And YZF-R1M

I didn't read closely enough the first time to see that the R1 also got them. Yeah, that's just for fashion. Even if you're going to put one on the track the first thing you do is swap the expensive fragile OEM fairings with some fiberglass ones.

    2025 Yamaha YZF-R1 And YZF-R1M

Aside from catering to a particular fashion sense, I believe that winglets exist on the R1M (and ZX-10RR, and M1000RR) so that they are homologated and can be used in various superbike race series that care about such things.

    New Chain & Sprockets: 2019 Tracer 900GT

I've been using RK chains and rivet tool, mostly because they make it easy to decode the intended application for their various chain designations and they provide rivet flare dimensions for each.

    What are you currently playing?

I haven't played VGA Planets, but I have played a tiny bit of 'Stars!' which looks extremely similar. It's before my time, but I'm curious if anyone here has ever played the play-by-mail (paper mail, not e-mail!) predecessors of these sorts of games? A couple of years ago I tried Stellaris, but...

    What are you currently playing?

High school was the last time that my group regularly played. Things got harder to schedule once we were into post-secondary education and reached drinking age, and dropped off to almost nothing as everyone got jobs and kids. But a group that does one-session or short duration games could work...

    What are you currently playing?

Even if you have a regular group, it's a trope that you can never find a common time to play anyway.

    Tire pressure gauges

Yup, even if they're not accurate, they're handy to get in the ballpark. My inflator has a built-in readout so I just over-inflate by 1 or 2 psi and then use the bleed valve on the Motion Pro to bring it down to the pressure I want. A quick press on the bleed valve button can drop the pressure...

    Tire pressure gauges

One of the nice things about the Motion Pro gauges is the chuck on them, which you can purchase separately if you want to graft it onto a cheaper gauge. When mine was new it seated perfectly every time. After a handful of years at the track it's getting a little harder to seat without leaking a...

    Tire pressure gauges

I've got the Motion Pro digital one if you're looking for garage jewellery. Total overkill for most, but the readout is in .1 PSI increments, it's allegedly not influenced by changes in altitude, and it's a pleasure to use. As for accuracy, you either have to take their word for it or find a...

Repsol ends long term association with Honda

Honda and Yamaha sat on their laurels and reacted far too slowly to Ducati's aero and ride-height advances over the past handful of years. Yamaha clearly got the message and has been making visible improvements under the concessions system, but they are still a long way from being competitive...

    Getting custom ear plugs made

Princess Auto had -33dB foam ones that fit me the best, but they changed 10 or 15 years ago. Same box/packaging, but the plugs themselves were subtly different (the new ones are wider and less tapered). I bought every box I could find of the old ones. I got a set of custom-molded silicone ones...

    McGyver'in some side racks

Something that helps with design/analysis paralysis is to commit mentally to building the thing at least twice. The first one is to just try things out, with no regard for aesthetics. The second one is to take what you learned from the first one, tweak it so it works better, and then maybe make...

Dublin / Ireland What to see and do?

In terms of things to see, Dublin was chock full of pretty girls when I was there.

What did you do in your garage today..?

Does yours use a regular 15A plug? I've only got 15A circuits in the garage to work with, and I wasn't clear if the larger units require a 20A circuit (eg: the cheapo PowerFist fluxcore machine has a max amperage draw of 23A. Even the mini stick machine has a max draw of 20A, but has a 15A plug...

What did you do in your garage today..?

I'm pretty sure I've seen that mini welder on sale for $90 before, and would consider it a disposable learning tool. The accessories like helmet, gloves and clamps will probably add up to be more than the welder itself.

What did you do in your garage today..?

Hmm. I'll have to think about that, as it would require joining Facebook. GTAM fills all of my social media needs - there's nothing quite like a regional motorcycle forum to get your home renovation tips, tax advice, and welding guidance.

What did you do in your garage today..?

Since welders have come up a couple of times in the context of the luggage rack topics, would this microscopic 120V stick welder be a suitable starting point for moving beyond bolt-together fabrication methods? I don't have 240v in the garage, hence the 120v. Storage space is a primary concern...

What did you do in your garage today..?

Removing the top plate and leaving the uprights in place would be convenient if you want to grab the whole thing and take it into the hotel with you without fumbling with unstrapping the bag, but might not be worth the effort. Personally, I'd probably just glue the top plate in place as...

What did you do in your garage today..?

If you want the top plate to be easily removable, you could have two small forward-facing pins or flat plates attached to the front of the uprights, which hook over the front edge of the slots in the plate. Combine those with some sort of attachment mechanism to the rear tubular steel bar to...

    Motorcycle Stands

I have a Woodcraft stand that uses two small pins under the forks. It is very stable and secure, assuming you have holes in the bottom of your forks. I was a bit skeptical until I watched a bunch of videos of it in use, but you can safely remove the axle and front wheel with it...
