Resort vacation - Panama vs Punta Cana

I’ve been to both (a lot) and like both but prefer Panama. When you step off the plane in Tocumen a short subway trip gets you to the main bus station and rainforest with toucans, monkeys and sloths is a few dollar cab ride from there right in the City. Where the OP would be going is a 40...

Resort vacation - Panama vs Punta Cana

If you’re looking at the RIU in Panama then I’ve heard good things from people that stayed there. That’s near the Decameron complex too. Nice beaches but the water isn’t super clear for snorkelling. You can take trips out on the water though and there’s a big island offshore that may have...

Resort vacation - Panama vs Punta Cana

It’s not super cheap any more. You can eat for less if you stick with the places locals go to and you’ll get tasty fresh fish or meat dishes with beans and rice. A tourist fish place on the beach will cost you about 10-15US for a main with beers for a few bucks.

    Anyone here a cyclist?

Bought a Thudbuster seat post. The roads round here for a non-suspension bike are poop. Will give it a go to see if it will prevent my teeth rattling out.

Resort vacation - Panama vs Punta Cana

Punta Cana is full of Germans. I’ll make no more comment than that.

Resort vacation - Panama vs Punta Cana

If you feel a bit more adventurous I can send you the AirBnB details. Think it was about $200 a night for a place with two sets of bedrooms, one right on the beach, and an outdoor large palm frond covered palapa with hammocks, outdoor seating, dining table and outdoor kitchen. There’s an...

Resort vacation - Panama vs Punta Cana

Is it the Decameron in Panama or the area the Decameron is in? If so, within a short distance of that resort you have access to real rainforest and lovely little villages. The beaches are good and not many on them. If you fly into the nearby airport you’re 20 mins from your hotel. Day trips...

What about the ******** who were with her in those other cars?

    Anyone here a cyclist?

A Garmin Varia radar works well for this. Advance warning of traffic behind you. I like mine so much I feel way more exposed when I forget it.

    ******** deterrents.

The driveway alarm has proved to be 100% accurate for only people stepping onto the driveway so I’m happy about that. No animals or shadows/sun or anything else have tripped it. What this means is that if it goes off at night I can be 100% sure there’s someone on my driveway and then get the...

    ******** deterrents.

No, it’s nitrogen tri-iodide. However, if you don’t know what you’re doing it will happily take your fingers off. https://www.chemedx.org/video/nitrogen-triiodide-detonation

    Now that was slick.

Those particular civilians haven’t ever had a normal life. That’s the problem.

    Now that was slick.

Well, it may seem reasonable and measured right now but Israel just stepped down to wrestle with a pig. Everyone gets covered in **** when that happens, especially if that pig really was the originator of the IED.

    Now that was slick.

Absolutely. But I’d like to think we learned as we evolved. The bombing of Dresden is still a really raw point among modern Germans even though they hate the Nazis as much as the Brits did. I was trying to think of the worst modern case and maybe Bloody Sunday was as close as I could get or...

The IRA hid in Dublin. I’m having a really hard time remembering when the British army levelled the city?

    Now that was slick.

That’s an acceptable response for an equivalence that would take severe mental gymnastics to twist about and to be fair, when it comes to the Middle East and this eternal issue, “ok” is about as good as we can get at times. Complete and utter clusterfuck from the 1940’s onwards.

You’d have a great point if Israel hadn’t actually been doing that too with nearly every hospital that isn’t theirs.

    Air Canada strike

If you don’t prepare it’s a zoo. Not the worst airport I’ve ever been to though. That would be Miami. The staff there just don’t give a ****. They didn’t prioritize passengers with slim connections or anything. Saw tons of people miss flights because the security line wasn’t operated...
