The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

I just got my Submariner back from a full service. First time after 15 years of constant wear, 24/7. A new bracelet was recommended, so I said OK. It was not cheap, but it was much cheaper than all the many used ones I found online. And my old bracelet was returned after a full refinishing. It...

They have also been making watches of the highest quality for more than 100 years. By quality I mean durable and reliable tools; not highly decorated and complicated objets d'art. They have an in house foundry, as well. I think they know what they're doing.

Maybe I'm biased or susceptible to marketing hype, but I would expect Rolex to be at the leading edge of this kind of metallurgy.

I've always thought the Yachmasters (NOT the YM2) were beautiful. The new Ti variant is even more so. And I've always had an interest in titanium (I have some; more on that later). Note, it scratches easier than stainless. Some of the hardcore aficionados have criticisms of the 3235 movement.

I have never tried it, but I think it is made for acrylic crystals. Not sure if it would work on mineral. If it does let me know. I have a bad one. You probably have a local guy, or can find one. If not, the guy in Cookstown is good. He did a nice job on my Dad's Omega, around the same...

Nice watch! I like the linen dials too. Classy. I love those repair and restore videos and could watch them all day. You might want to get some Polywatch and have a go at cleaning up that crystal yourself.

I went today. Not as many watches as I expected. A few tables covered in loose watches. Mostly largish, gaudyish ones, like you might see in a mall shop. Many with the Bulova brand. I saw one with a noticeable scratch on the clasp. If you buy one they give you a box at checkout. There were 2...

What did you do in your garage today..?

Mine is 24 X 32. I thought I did a good job. I compacted the hell out of the base, and put 1/2" expansion around the outside. It cracked just about in the places where I considered scoring it.
