    Boat Rentals

Goodbye landmark. The ship at Jordan Harbour is no longer for rent. The replica of La Grande Hermine is being scrapped. The coast guard has labeled it dangerous, possibly because people sneak on board. https://www.cliftonhill.com/falls_blog/abandoned-ship-niagara-la-grande-hermine/ Also...

    Boat Rentals

I was at the top of a 200 foot state of the art crane in a work platform. If you asked the operator to move you over six inches, that is what you got. Smooth and precise. The typical bucket truck could give you whiplash. Millions of dollars buys progress.

    COVID and the housing market

Like a custom tailored suit, it's only custom for you. If it's your "for life" place and affordable, go for it. If it's a stepping stone learn to like other people's tastes. I worked with a builder near Guelph that switched from new builds to renos. He had high standards and couldn't compete...

    Boat Rentals

Apparently in Texas you can do what you want with a property due to there being no zoning bylaws. Communities that appear well kept often have HOAs, many run by over zealous nit pickers running around with micrometers measuring grass height. Not my thing. If you had a million plus home and had...

    $73 Chinese handheld welders

I have the CTC variant one and it works. It takes practice to get going but practice makes perfect. Keep in mind amateur focused machines are not designed for 100% duty cycles. Let it cool off while you grind off your bad welds. I had lots of time. Tip: While taking welding kindergarten cut...

    Fire extinguisher testing

Maybe a fire fighter can correct me but fire requires fuel, oxygen and a source of ignition. The source of ignition doesn't have to be a spark or flame. All you have to do is raise the fuel to above its auto ignition temperature. Heat a piece of paper in a hot oven and you have the criteria. No...

    Your loooongest ride.

I like solo as well. I get up when I want, eat what I want when I want and about lunch time look at a map and decide where I want to spend the night. Call in a reservation. Repeat

    Boat Rentals

Tax misery: If trailers are allowed the municipality is cheated of income while burdened by schools and services = Tax misery for them If instead brick and mortar homes are built taxes are paid by the occupants = tax misery for the residents Pick your misery.

    Boat Rentals

Carlyle Ontario 1990s: A farmer let someone park a RV on his farm and hook up to power, water and septic. Then came another, and another and another. My buddy moved in with his recreational trailer, not designed for winter or full time use. Then some more. Kids appeared. My buddy wasn't the only...

    Boat Rentals

You could get one of those into your back yard as a granny flat cheaper than an addition.

    Good news thread

My parents broke up when I was in diapers and my father moved to New Zealand, never to be heard from again. Just before Covid I found out I had a bunch of half siblings there. Last week I met my half sister and over a couple bottles of red wine some fantastic stories came out. Life is good and...

    Fire extinguisher testing

I tried to use an industrial sized extinguisher on an established fire. Extinguishers have their limits and the one I used was about as beneficial as spitting. Make sure you don't get trapped think you can spray your way out.

storing motorcycle in unheated garage (attached to house)

Take a look at exposed metal in the building. If nail heads, tools etc are badly rusted consider some remedial action for the bike. In an unheated structure winter relative humidity doesn't change much. Dry winter air is an indoor heated air issue. Old churches that were never heated had...

    Your loooongest ride.

Most satisfying: I've always wanted to see Mount Rushmore and did the trip in 2008 via Ohio and the midwest, coming back through Manitoba and visiting relatives. When I stopped at my uncle's place in Brandon I was tired of riding and thought "If someone would ship the bike back I'd bus to...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Yesterday I got serious about removing the old maple stump in the back yard. Since I was splitting it with the grain I resharpened the blade to a part chisel tooth and the chips came out as sawdust instead of the wood strings that were jamming the saw. The electric sharpener from Princess...

    Inflation

With butter at $7.50 a pound thieves are stealing cartons of it. I assume it’s 24 to the case so close to $200 a box. It freezes well so no problem keeping the stuff

    COVID and the housing market

With real estate dropping out of the feeding frenzy mode listings are more like the historic pattern. Two bungalows were for sale looking very similar curb side. One went for just under $1.4 M the other has been sitting for a long time at $1.7M. Both are clean and move in condition but the...

    $73 Chinese handheld welders

It looks clumsy to me. 120 volt stick welders under 20 amps can work but are tricky to use for a novice. A pro can do better but a pro would have better equipment so a moot point. The only place a pro would consider a light weight unit is for working where the welder has to be carried up a...

    H-D Sales Numbers

Build quality sucks. Goggle delamination. We sold our 26 footer cruiser for the same reasons you listed. It would be cheaper to hotel the same number of weekends and get a variety of locations. That said, hotel rates have exploded recently and restaurant meals are up there too.
