    Boars in Pickering

I saw a documentary years ago where the ranchers in South America somewhere would catch a couple of the males and castrate them in the field, then let them go. They'd then shoot them a few months later after they'd fattened up. I'm not sure how good the meat is on a feral one is, but it is...

The curse of the double edge sword

My farmer neighbour uses fly bait for raccoons. The nice thing about it is they don't go very far before they die, so there's no chance of them getting in somewhere you can't find them and stinking up the place. Something like this I think. Fly Bait for Farm | QuikStrike® Fly Bait I'm not...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Yeah, the stuff on the gutter tops wasn't too bad, it just wipes off. The stuff that gets packed in under and around the snow stop is a pain. Probably if I blew it off during the year it wouldn't build up to the point that it starts to rot.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

My neighbour lost his licence years ago, so he doesn't work. I pay him to deal with my leaves. He puts his and mine across the road. Luckily I own those 100 acres so we don't get in trouble from that. Costs me about $150 per year, and I don't have to worry about it and he loves the extra...

Just an FYI. The platform at the door, by code, has to be large enough to stand on and open the door fully. Probably not an issue for you, but if you sell it could get flagged. You might want to ensure you keep enough space to do that in the future.

    Boars in Pickering

They have no sense of humor. Buddy of mine was OPP in the north and hung out with COs. They were going fishing one day, and the CO reached into his truck to pull his ticket book out. My buddy asked him why. He said "in case we meet anyone breaking the law". My buddy grabbed his ticket book...

Injuries using e-scooters, e-bikes and hoverboards jump 70% during the past four years

Gotta love the way they do the math in the original article. If they wait a year they can say "it's doubled". The actual increase is much smaller, including only 5.5 % increase in the last year of the report.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

When I built the house I put an outlet under the eave and switched it expressly for this purpose. Put the lights up and plug them in and flick the switch when you want them on or off. Saves wear and teat on the outlet and the plugs (and my hands).

    Gas Prices ...

Regarding high speed in the corridor, when I worked for Bombardier we had a few meetings years apart to discuss this very project. One of the key issues was that every crossing needed to be isolated; no level crossings allowed. A big argument against going ahead was trying to convince everyone...

    Aurora

I lived in Edmonton for a while and travelled for work. Saw the lights many times. Pretty impressive up there, but I'd like to see them from further north some time.

The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

Learned a new word today. Thought "droke" was a typo and looked it up.

True, you're probably right, but I find the air blowing out to be chilly. They turn the fan on even if you've only got one element on low. Even with several elements on, I don't find much increase in the air temp blowing out.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I find this a minor pain with my slide-in induction. The air blows out the front just under the top, right where you are often standing. They should vent the air to the back, or bottom so it's not blowing on you.

Come look at mine next time you're in the area. Slide-in, induction, bottom "warming" oven actually goes up to a useable temperature for cooking. Give Pat a call and see what she says. Induction is nice if you have proper pots and pans for it. Otherwise it's not that efficient with regards...

    Gas Prices ...

I had mini-vans for years. Of course, I also had 4 kids, so it was kind of necessary. But, even after the kids were grown I had one and used it for everything. Hauling deer out of the woods, hauling lumber and building material, pulling the trailer to get logs out of the woods. They were...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Yeah, I've heard that too, but critters get killed on the road all the time and new territories open up as such. I figure a relocation is preferable, even if they have to fight a bit to stake their claim. The alternative is the Winchester retirement plan.

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Yeah, I use a moving blanket and hold it up and walk toward the trap. Drape it over it and put the whole thing in the Blazer. Take it about 2 miles away over the ridge to a nice swamp and I have a clothes hanger bent so I can pull the latch from a few feet away. They would rather run away than...

I smoked some ribs and just threw the bones in the trap when I was done. Caught two trash pandas and a skunk in 3 days.

In actuality, they say you should not bury the tube, but support it with a framework and pour the concrete. Then you remove the wrap and backfill the hole. That's the best way and allows the soil to grip into the concrete, preventing lifting. The worst thing to do, and most common, is to...

Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

A week in sonotubes is great. Lots of people pull the wrap off the same or next day, and that stops the curing and no more strength is built. On my deck, I just left the wrap on. it is weathering a bit but not really seen when on the deck so I don't care.
