Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2019 Edition)

Bike Friendly Ontario Insurance People [2008 edition!]

Called the whole list, lots of out of date info and went with Desjardins (Li Chen's office) who were the ones giving me the best deal and being the most reactive/available on the phone.

Should have looked way earlier. I looked all DriveTest Centre locations and the closest I could find is St Catharines. Rest is in Thunder Bay area. Might turn this into an adventure haha On another note, could you guys recommend some trustworthy previously-owned motorcycle garages in GTA ?

Alrighty, got the M2 upgraded today thanks to one more trip to Service Ontario ? Given the context here, I was thinking of booking the M2X test directly rather than going through a course. Does that change much for insurers? (Price wise) (tl;dr for those who don't want to read the whole...

Thanks for the advice man. So frustrating to have to go back to smaller bikes ^^ So the cutoff for insurers is at 600cc here ?

I used to own a roadster in France but I didn't like it having all the wind in your face as soon as you have a bit of speed. Here the main use will be to go for a ride on weekends so depending on quotes, I was looking at an FZ6R or similar. Maybe smaller if insurance is tearing me a new one :)...

Yeah I'm going to look at bikes now. For second-hand bikes, would you rather buy from an individual or from a "good/trustworthy" garage ? Regarding insurance, I'll check with brokers if they can do it this way or if it is equal monthly payments. Depending on the rates, I might insure it just to...

Hey friends, quick update :-) Passed my M2 successfully and now have to wait mid September (for the 60 days thing) to be able to claim the license upgrade at Service Ontario. I am a bit hesitant to get a bike that late in the season. Here's my thinking: On one hand, I could potentially get a...

Hey guys, so went back to Service Ontario. The rollercoaster keeps on running. So it turns out what the previously told me is wrong. I need to do M1 + M2 + M but without the 2 years wait between M2 and M. So I booked an M2 class to get the insurance "discount" and will probably take the M...

Talked to a rep at Mitchell and Whale today. He told me that I could go straight to M license and that by obtaining it through a driving course, it would help on the premium. Also, he mentioned that the number of years of experience in France I would get credited on my license would come into...

What do you mean by savings ? On insurance ? Both schools I talked to didn't provide the bikes. They mentioned GTA Exotics or through Kijiji. Not sure about the 3 months thing. I'm guessing it would be back to taking M1 again then M. Isn't it how it goes for M1 to M2 if you don't get your M2...

So, when you have at least 2 years of motorcycle experience in another country, Ontario allows you skip M2 as follows : Instead of doing M1 -> M2 -> M you just go M1 -> M as if you already did your 2 years in M2. But abroad. So I've called some riding schools and they told me the easiest path...

Yeah I've spent the afternoon on that. I was looking at some 2011 FZ6, similar to what I had in France. Nothing crazy. AllState -> need 1 year of insurance in NA TD -> no M2, no insurance Desjardins -> no M2, no insurance Mitchel and Whale -> $4,662 yearly as I am considered a new driver...

Oh that's where the confusion comes from! In France, your equivalent to M1 or M2 is limiting you horsepower wise. I mixed the 2 models in my head haha Ok so get bike, get insurance, pass the M road test :)

Thanks man. So I got full G license (in exchange of my French license). And for motorcycle, they said I can go straight to M license as I could justify 2 years of motorcycle experience from France. If I go with my own bike, I need to have it insured. Wouldn't rates be higher for M1 or do...

Hey guys, I moved this winter to Toronto and looking forward to good rides in the area :-) I come from France and had my motorcycle license over there. Latest bike I owned was a 2014 CB500F, perfect bike to begin with! Successfully passed my M1 yesterday and now have to pass my M road test...
