Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Today is one of the rare days I need to go to the office in DT Toronto. I'm considering whether I should take the Triumph or use the TTC.

I'm not worried a our the cold (heated gear for the win! ) but rather I'm concerned about the precipitation and the possibility of black ice on the roads. I know it might seem like a silly question, but I don't have enough experience with commuting on this kind of weather.

When in doubt, just take the TTC. Rainy day with salt everywhere from the other day... No bueno. Will be warmer this weekend.

There's no black ice anywhere.

I'm still riding daily 🙂

Saw some brave soul riding in the Stouffville area today in the snow.

Salt brine everywhere this week and hoping today's rain cleaned up the roads a bit. Would like to get some miles in on Monday.

At least we have a not totally crappy forecast for the weekend, although hardly warm temperatures. But we’ll at least see some sun.

Rode to work this am. 2.5c on the dash. Currently 14c should be a nicer ride home.

Got my fill of ~400km of twisties yesterday. Most of the roads are clean. Secondary roads are pretty soft and pretty much anything with no winter maintenance isn’t passable yet. This was an easy road in nice shape but after slugging 20min down the southern unmaintained portion of Old Hastings Rd I had to turn back when I couldn’t make it up a 25m section of ice on a north-facing hill. No photos there as it was either mud or ice. I got proper muddy :)

There are different valleys ranges in BC. I spent the weekend touring from the interior over to the coastal mountains to attend a ride organized by one of the Lower Mainland riding groups. Fun time with perfect riding weather ~18-20C, not too hot and not too cold for working hard on the trails!

Seton Lake, on the way to the coast

The Highline Trail just outside of Lillooet is one of my favorite scenic routes.

Tunnel at Terazghi Dam, a BC Hydro site

Ride started in Squamish, and we all headed up the Elaho Valley.

About 50-60 bikes showed up, so we split up in groups of 10 with staggered starts.

Our riding group. Ride was very well organized!

Stopped a lot to eat and gab at several scenic spots

Few spills along the way on some of the more bumpy and watery sections.

Doing some trail maintenance on the way. Thankfully this guy in a truck had a chainsaw, which made the job easier

DesertX... er... PebbleX on the rocky beach!!!
