I remember thinking the same about Tron Legacy, then I watched it and the kids and I love it.
Do I need to be open to new and different?

Don't mind the change. Glad it wasn't mubble rap or flavour of the month "talent" chosen for music.
Apparently this film has gone through some script and cast change overs since Legacy. It's Disney so the theme of "AI is coming to destroy or save you" seems be the hot topic here.

Loved Trent Reznor's work on the Quake soundtrack. I think he'll do the new Tron movie justice.

I'd recommend you watch the other two first, but that's just me. If you do, make sure you get a well-upscaled version of the original to make the 40-year-old visual FX bearable.

Tron Legacy was a great follow up to the original Tron, Mrs Wilde does not disappoint, the FX was done in Toronto as well.
Both movies are tops in my book, great concepts executed well, with sound tracks to match. But not everyone's cup of tea due as the subject could be seen as fairly niche.
