Powerwheels Battery

Gotta be some dads on here that know the go-to spot to order battery’s for Powerwheels. I accidentally set the CTEK to 12v Car instead of the Bike setting and boiled the battery. Whoops.
Amazon or is there some other online spot I don’t know about?

I bought on Amazon
There's also a conversation kit you can buy iirc to turn other batteries, like the ones for house alarms, or power tools.

I looked at a few options when my kid had the PW Escalade
I think in the end I just went to Walmart

It's not worth the drive but if you are in the area for some other reason, in the past, I have have bought lots of things from Great Northern Battery in Hamilton. I don't know if they have power wheels stuff but it's worth a call.

Now's a great time for a tool battery conversion. ~$30 and you can use batteries you already have.

Here's a compatible one pretty cheap. I remember this being one of the companies I considered for my UPS battery replacements, but only went with another because of location:

EDIT: Picture indicates you may need to rewire, but not sure if they just used a generic pic.

I did look into the conversion but you also need to install something to keep them from discharging too low and runtime is less so I've heard so I think I'll just stay oem. Plus they're on the gas toys more now so the Powerwheels will be too slow/boring for them quite soon anyways.

I cut the connector off the original and used a 12v 9ah battery you'd find in an alarm system. Then as they got older I added a second one in series and they loved doing burnouts and doughnuts at will.

I put lithium in mine when they died from Amazon https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B092PR8QFQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
This is in their underwear scooters last better than the lead acid did.

Thanks looks like either would fit/work. Would the 9ah alarm battery give more power or would the 8ah lithium be the better bet? I’m not worried about the extra recharges of the lithium as this is likely the last year it’ll get used and then get donated to friends (actually they likely don’t have a lithium battery charger).

Lithium should outperform the sealed battery in every way but as you said, if friends don't have a charger for it, that's an issue.

I charge ours with the charger that came with the scooters no issues probably not ideal but good enough.

Power tool batteries have that internally, it's part of the batteries themselves, so no worries there.

That's just fine, they just won't ever get to a 100% state of charge as lithium requires a higher finishing voltage, but a modern electronic charger designed for lead acid will do just fine to get them to around 80-85% SOC, just don't use any funky "revive" or "desulphate" modes. And given as how you can use basically 100% of a lithium vs 50-60% of a lead acid, even getting it to "only" 85%, a lithium will still outperform the lead acid, and will last longer too. I converted one of my UPS's to a set of these $50 lithiums from Amazon and they are performing great - the batteries BMS is perfectly fine with the lead acid charge profile, the UPS doesn't seem to care either, although it's calibration is wildly off now as the first runtime test I did with it I gave up after 8 hours and plugged it back in lol.

If you must go with the cheap lead acids, the key with those things is to recharge them *immediately* after use - those little gel batteries do not tolerate being left in a low state of charge for very long at all without suffering permanent capacity loss. It's when the kids flatten the battery and mom and dad just push it into the garage and don't plug it in that they go bad.

You can replace the original 6v batteries with 12v without damaging anything? Then when you put the second 12v in series, that's effectively 24v, right?

I can't guarantee it won't damage anything of coarse, (other then the wheels a little from spinning so much lol) my kids rode around for a whole summer at 24v before they finally outgrew the cars. There is a ton of pages of people doing this on the net with schematics if needed.

I had the wiring set up so I could configure it in parallel on the fly if I knew we were going to be out for a long time.

Many of these toys coming out of China are sold all over the world into places where 220v ac is common and 24v DC has a home , so there is often a lot of latitude can be played with before they catch fire .

Thanks everyone. I ordered that lithium one that was posted.

I've been pretty happy with them thus far, although they live a pretty boring life in my main UPS, but I have tested them and they insanely outperformed the old lead acids, as Lifep04 batteries always do.

I just got tired of replacing the lead acid batteries every 2-3 years which seemed to be their lifespans. Last set lasted only 2 years and of course died just when I needed them during a power outage.

I popped for the $5 Assurion extended warranty on them as well. At 2 years I'll do a capacity test on them and if there's any issue, that'll be there.

Let us know how they work out on the powerwheels.
